Dreamer nearly blows up the house

Bloody Hell I just very nearly gassed myself!

Steak for dinner – put the potatoes on, started making a sauce, put the grill on to get really hot, cutting up vegetables. Bit of a smell of gas, so I checked the rings were lit – yup, no problem; just must have been a waft when I moved the other pan to boil some water for the veg. Five minutes went by, then it was time to put the steak under the grill. Hang on a minute, the grill’s not hot. Fucking Hell it’s not even lit!

Oh Bollocks – front door open, back door open, thank goodness I didn’t have an explosion! The whole house reeks of gas, and now I come to think of it I’ve got a bit of a headache coming on. That might not be connected though….I think I had that already as a result of a long afternoon in front of the computer trying to get all my work finished.

Instead of which it was nearly me who was all finished. All okay now though, and the steak turned out yummy.

Absolutely! As it turned out it was worth it, dinner was great, and the smell and the headache have gone now, lol.

a steak to die for... almost quite literally. Glad you're still in one piece.

Holy Smoke I am so glad you're okay. One of the reasons I cook by electricity....I changed when the children were teenagers and starting to cook for themselves while I was in work.

Glad you're ok.

I much prefer to cook with gas, but unfortunately, the last two places I've rented have had electric stoves and stove tops.

All's well that ends well...you got to eat the steak, and you didn't blow up! That's a win all around! I would have hated to read a post written from a hospital bed...

A steak to die for was very nearly the title I used for this post!

I had an incident with my old electric cooker as well once.....I left a chicken carcase boiling for stock and forgot about it. Went out somewhere, and when I got back the house was full of thick smoke, there was nothing at all in the pot, and somehow there was what looked like bone ash upstairs in the bath! How the house wasn't on fire I have no idea, and the walls were all black and sticky........Quite a clean up job.

Usually I am quite safe, though, lol.

I do prefer the instant controllability of gas - everything heats up much more quickly. If you remember to light it.

Thanks Kay, yes, it was a win all round, and perhaps I exaggerated the danger a little bit for the sake of a funny post. Probably a little wooomph and singed eyebrows would have been the worst result. Although the smell was bad!

Yikes, that's a bit scary! It would be a much greyer world with no Dreamer in it, so I'm glad you're fine.

You're making me hungry though! What kind of steak sauce did you make?

I loathe electric cookers, but I've been starting to worry a lot about gas, what with mom getting a bit more forgetful each day. The Hot Chef (my crush of the summer, not that I ever told him that) also hates electric and only ever used gas until recently, but he has many good things to say about induction hobs, so that might be a possibility. I worry about the kabooms probably more than I should - it's been a recurring nightmare since I was a child.

I have heard induction hobs are very good.

It was a mushroom sauce I think, I can't really remember now!

Great to see you, although I am sorry to hear about your mum. And your rotator cuff. (I've had that, it did get better in the end, but it took ages, my sympathies. )

I saw your blog by the way. I was so tempted I didn't dare comment!

I finally see this, four months late. Sheesh, I know I'm often late to the party, but that's pushing it, even for me.

Your temptation tempts me, if that makes any sense. I am one of those people who is curious about what most of her friends would be like in bed, but I'll admit to having more curiosity about some folks than about others. There is so much passion in the way you write, I have wondered several times how that translates to the bedroom.

(Probably this would have been better to write somewhere private, but let's face it, the messaging system on here is crap at the best of times.)
