Where are all my wiafus at? (japanese Anime and cartoon fans unite!)

I love Japanese Anime! There are so many different styles of Anime to watch. I was an early adapter to Japanese Anime. My first was Speed Racer. When I was a kid, I would rush home so I could catch Speed Racer on the local channels for afternoon cartoons. Man, watching that was awesome when I was a kid. I grew up on it! Which might explain why I'm such a lead foot on the highways and expressways sometimes. LOL!

Seriously though, both Japanese Anime and cartoons in general are awesome. I could write a 10 thousand word blog post listing all of the Anime and cartoons I watched, but I honestly don't have the time for it. I admit I'm not too huge on hentai, because some of it is just way the fuck out there, but hey, I won't knock it too much because everyone has their own taste. But still I love watching Japanese Anime because the Japanese have made it an art form. In fact cartoons in general, the different drawing styles, even the Pixar stuff or today's cartoons are just amazing to watch.

I think the reason I love Japanese Anime the most is some of the stuff is very thought provoking. The topics that Japanese Anime covers regarding how future technology will effect our future and our humanity is amazing. It gives me such hope and joy for the future in some instances and fear in other regards as well. Japanese Anime also covers how people struggle against good and evil and the areas of gray in-between. Sure some of it might be corny as hell, but other times, the emotions it draws out watching this stuff, it really can touch the hearts and minds of people. When I was younger, some kids would look down on you if you watched Japanese Anime, like you were a freak. Nowadays, Japanese Anime is more mainstream than ever. More and more people are accepting it in droves.

Even today's normal cartoons and digitally animated cartoons are effected by Anime, and the animation styles of people drawing stuff now is fading fast in change for how studios are using computers to draw things. It's amazing how current technology is effecting things today.

The one thing though for me is this...I'm a 49 year old man. Who loves watching cartoons and Japanese Anime. So for some women, it's nor normally accepted. They think that it makes me immature, but that's not the case for me. I think it allows me to accept different styles of television or movies so that people can understand there are different norms our there. Just like people who are gay, or straight, or bisexual or transgendered or cisgendered, however you want to look at it, there are different styles of movies and television, and...cartoons out there. Whether you enjoy the old Tex Avery cartoons, Warner Bros. cartoons, Disney, Pixar, Marvel or DC cartoons, or Japanese Anime in it's different styles...there is a different flavor to enjoy as well.

So to the people reading this, do you like watching Japanese Anime or cartoons in general? What are your favorite cartoons or anime? Do you think cartoons are immature or do you love watching them and don't care what others think if you are immature or not? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Definite anime-niac here as well as general fan of animation. But I can one-up you on that, I also tend to be a bit of a voice actor geek.

Whether it's anime, shows from Cartoon Network or Nick or mainstream animated films, I love trying to identify familiar voice actors along with big-name actors that appear. I've often thought that my mid-life crisis won't be a desire to get a fast car or a WAY younger-than-me girlfriend, it'd be me quitting my job and moving to where I might get work as a voice actor. LOL

Funny thing is how some of my anime preferences have shifted over the years. I enjoyed a lot of the stuff that aired on Toonami/Adult Swim in my 20's, both the comedy and the more dramatic, but now I tend to stick to the comedy/fluff/slice of life stuff and avoid the darker themed shows. I don't mind the occasional dark theme every once in a while, but I just prefer to keep it lighter these days.

I think Bryce Papenbrook is just ALL over the place with his voices along with Mark Hamill. Those two are just everywhere.

Yes, I enjoy all of those, it's good to be young at heart!

I think cartoons, no matter the age is good for the soul. I wish more people would not push others away from it as they got older.

I grew up with a lot of the old cartoon shorts that were part of a night at the movies, back in the 30s and 40s, that they'd put together on local TV stations for half hour shows. We had some good hosts in my area when I was a sprout. Then through the 60s with the Flintstones, Jetsons, Johnny Quest, Underdog, Sherman and Peabody etc. I've always hated Scooby Doo, though. Saturday morning was the shit, they'd even have network specials in prime time to show off their lineups.

I grew my son up in the late 90s, early 00s on some real quality stuff they had at the time from Genndy Tartakovsky, etc. Samurai Jack was awesome, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Dexter's Laboratory, the Power Puff Girls, Ren & Stimpy, Ed Edd and Eddy. At the same time, I v-chipped Nickelodeon, because what they had was typically garbage. Since then, it's all gone to crap.

To this day I camp out on Adult Swim when it's on, despite some of the crap they inflict on us. My other channels are mostly Science, History, Discovery, sometimes Food. I've always had an ambiguous relationship to anime as such. It's usually more adult, thought provoking, and emotionally mature, of course sometimes it's stupid.

My thing is this kind of amazement that people can be looking at the same things I am, yet see "other than anime" as all being the same, while anime has such variety. To me, most of the animes are very much reminiscent of one another. Yes Speed Racer was more simply drawn, vs, say, Cowboy Bebop, but they all say "anime" to me, whereas a character from Futurama would stick out like a neon sign in Bob's Burgers. Drop somebody from Naruto into My Hero Academia, and I wouldn't notice. I'm sure there are counterexamples.

Anyway, you're not alone in the pool.

I grew up as well with Speed Racer at first, but I used to love watching the Tex Avery and Bugs Bunny cartoons with my dad. Some of that was funny as hell.

Saturday mornings back in the day were incredible. I wish my kids could have experienced that, that was some great times back then.

And I have to give props to the Cartoon network and Adult Swim. I still watch Adult Swim regularly to get my dose of Anime. I recently also got Netflix, and the anime there is also very interesting, something to check out.

Very cool I'm not alone in the pool!

Oh yeah, in case you are wondering what a wiafu is, that's a Japanese term for wife/girlfriend you want to marry. Unfortunately, I see a lot of wiafus here, but they are either too far away or somehow they don't like a 49 year old man who likes Japanese Anime, cartoons, computers, comics, or nerdy stuff.
