 I dunno - would being RIGHT next door to you kids actually be a good idea? And I'd surely think it would put a damper on play-time visits, and perhaps even decorating that Dominatrix Dungeon.

But maybe you're more open with them than I realize.

Of course I have not thought everything through completely. In my grief, living next door to my son and daughter-in-law would provide immediate comfort to my discomfort and distress of being alone right now. I look at it as an opportunity to be right next door to being able to get a grandkid fix immediately rather than plotted and planned out. No travel time just walk next door or they could walk next door to see me.

As far as the dungeon portion, that would fall under what it would take to financially accomplish the goal of buying the house next door to them. It struck me funny that the man that owns the house is one that sought my services some years back. My thought process is that IF and it is a VERY LARGE IF, this guy is still interested, maybe he would entertain a reasonable price for me to be able to purchase the house and he would benefit for that special reduction by having me closer to being accessible.

Again, nothing really thought out completely because it never really provided an actual consideration on anyone's part.

It sure would be something if the stars and planets align for any of this to be a real possibility!!!! Not to mention I would be 10 minutes from my current employment as opposed to the two 45 minute drive to and from work 5 days a week.

 You're obviously "more in the know" as to legalities in your particular state - but I am shocked there would be any possibility that you wouldn't have to "probate" your late husband's estate.

Isn't that the whole reason for finding the will?

I can't speak for the rest of Canada - but where I live, it is not a good thing if there is a will, as the Province and Courts have far more leeway in distributing assets in a manner that may not have been intended.

I am VERY frustrated with the legal system here in Oklahoma and I'm guessing it is pretty much similar with the rest of the US as too probate laws. I've never worked in this area of law so I am pretty much clueless as to what counts and what doesn't count. Having an Original Will is better than no will. Though I'm finding out that having an Original Will and then naming an adopted child gives that child/person (the guy is now 48 years old).

The Probate area of law is definitely designed to make money for the attorneys, judges and courts. In cases like this one where there is a clear distribution of assets i.e. two real estate properties, it is pretty crazy to have to do a full probate but the property documents naming the exact owner(s) of the property were done incorrectly...thus, having to clear up the titles is the primary reason, though the title attorney that did the farm property title opinion is the one that declared there had to be a probate of my husband's estate to determine the true owner. Since then that attorney has come under much fire for sending this whole deal into a full blown probate and costing both the buyer and myself, the seller much more money.
I know I sound like a crazy woman going on and on about having to probate my deceased husband's estate but writing about it is my therapy of sorts for now. I think the biggest problem I have is that this very thing I'm having to go through is what my husband did not want to put me through.
I'll be fine, eventually. I'll be about $5000 poorer because of having to pay for this probate but at least all the property titles will be done correctly and I'll be able to access the investment accounts that were solely in my husband's name. I can't access those without a probate and now because my husband had to put his adopted son in the Original Will, I have to split those accounts 50/50 with him. Such is life!

 Thank you for taking the time to write such a lengthy response to my comment - in which there was a Glaring Typo. It should have read "...it is not a good thing if there is NOT a will".

I'm glad you have the outlet of using your blog as therapy, and trust this will all sort itself out, in due time.

Hopefully, when things settle down and you are able to think more clearly, and under no pressure - there will be the PERFECT house available to you which shortens your commute and allows much easier access to your grandchild.
