Bikers are True Friends.

Earlier today I came across classynsassy1's blog entry titled [post 1389622]. It got me thinking about my friends. I am an avid motorcyclist so many of my friends are bikers. Please note that I said friends, not acquaintances. There is a big difference. Acquaintances laugh with you, friends can laugh at you. When you are in pain acquaintances offer sympathy, friends cry with you, biker friends cry for you. Acquaintances don't know where you buried the bodies in your life, friends know where the bodies are buried, biker friends helped you bury them, no questions asked.
All bikers are my friends, whether we have met yet or not. That's why we wave to each other on the road. Who do you wave to?
If one of us is on the side of the road we stop to see if they need help. Do you do that?
When traveling I have met other bikers at highway rest areas, gas stations, and in the middle of the Mojave Desert, and we strike up conversations as if we have known each other for years. When was the last time you met a stranger somewhere and spent the rest of the day with them and had dinner together before going your separate ways? I have done just that several times.
I believe that all bikers share a common soul. Our passion for riding binds us together tighter than blood lines ever could. For one thing it takes a commitment to learn the skills needed to operate a motorcycle safely. We accept the risks of traveling the highways without a steel cage around us. We respect that in each other.
I am sure other lifestyles may be similar, sailing comes to mind, but they are not quite the same. I am fortunate to have friends inside and outside of the motorcycling community. My civilian friends are many and I cherish them, but I would not expect them to cry for me, nor to bleed for me. I have my biker friends for those things.
