A Poem by david stardust

PAMELA (a poem by david stardust)
I've got size fifteen wide feet,
and they're flat as two slabs of raw meat
hunkered down on a sheet of window pane glass...

These feet have carried this old body
away from more red fire zones
than most folks have stomped
THEIR toes down on the petal
at a late night intersection--
before the light turned green.

Hell, baby, I don't need no wheels
to walk away from you.

So I'm gonna' tell you straight out
to your face pretty baby,
and OH! MY God-Damn! That FACE!
Your face--the MUSIC in your voice,
the way your body heats my soul.

These feet of mine don't want to go,
but late at night
while you're curled there asleep,
not believing what I told you,
not believing one single word,
because I've said it all before--

these feet, these feet, these feet
will walk away, one step at a time
and I wonder if this time they can make it--
make it up the steepest hill I've ever climbed.

I learned over the years people want things their way,so did I,but you can't give in at times
People who get hooked on drugs, especially H. are impossible to deal with. They'll do anything to get their next fix. Pam finally went into rehab. and got off drugs, but by then she'd also lost her great beauty, and her sparkle. She got married to a bartender later on, and had a pretty girl. She ended up living as a housewife in Carmel Valley which is a little inland from Carmel and Pebble Beach... xoxodavid

What made you think of Pamela today?
You must have realy loved this woman.
Pamela worked at The Highlands, a famous place in Big Sur, and my younger sister and she shared an apartment in Monterey. My sister (now retired and living in Port Townsend, Wa.), and I have been writing a stream of emails back and forth since our older sister died June 14 th. My younger sister mentioned how beautiful Pamela had been, and asked if I'd ever heard from Pam after I left Monterey... (I did, but that's another story!). Thanks for the question and comment, Ed... xoxo david

pamela is not a very common name. does it has some sort of significance to you??
I lived in Monterey for about 18 months in 1970, and Pamela was a gorgeous girl who worked as a cocktail waitress in a high class joint in Big Sur. I was crazy about her and then she got hooked on heroin, and I walked away. I've never had any interest in any kind of drugs. Thanks for asking sweetheart! xoxodavid
