My 1st......

Virtual flight in the wind tunnel.

Those that have been reading my blogs for a while know of my love of indoor skydiving.

There's no way I would jump of a plane, so the tunnel is the next best thing.

Today I did a base jump in a wingsuit, did a skydive in Hawaii and one in the Swiss Alps, as well as two normal fights and taken to the top of the tunnel by the instructor twice.

The tunnel is meters (56ft) and 5 meters ( and a half ft) wide.

Can't wait to do my next one.

The photo I've attached is an old one, but my favourite.

I would do it more often if it wasn't so expensive. As it is, I probably only do it twice a year.

I've been skydiving... I was certified for a few years. It's a trip. You owe it to yourself to try it. It is truly a trip. 😊

I've always said I'd never skydive out of a plane, but after today I might have changed my mind, but might take a while for me to actually do it.

You can do everything in the tunnel you can do by jumping out of a plane other than..... get hurt. lol Mind you, I did see my son get kicked in the head while doing formation work in the tunnel. Better in there than up in the sky though.

Do you jump into it like from a platform or does it just lift you off the ground
gradually?

Using more than all the road!

When I jumped... it was back in the day, and things were different.
I had to take a 3 hour class.. They ran through every safety tip and every possible scenario that could occur. Scared the shit out of me... lol. They reviewed all the accidents that occurred and why they happened. Then I went to the airport - a little piece of crap air strip next to a farm... lol.. Sketchy? 😱
We went through another hour of practice on how to jump out of the plane.
In those days.... Your first jumps were all SOLO... We flew up to 7,000 feet... in this tiny Cessna 180 . In order to take off.... all 6 of us had to move to the front of the plane and huddle behind the pilot. It's at that point that I asked myself.... What the fuck I was doing there....
Then we jumped... it was the most terrifying, exhilarating and fantastic moment of my life. It was EPIC! I've never had a rush to match THAT one.... in my life.... Except when I decided to jump again and again and again... lol
These days... your first jump will be in tandem... with a person strapped to your back and you'll be jumping from 10,000 feet. But it will still be a thrill.

Sorry for getting carried away here. I jumped for 3 years... then I stopped. You'd lose your certification if you didn't jump at least 3 times per year. I didn't feel like going through that course again. And jumping with someone on my back didn't exist then.

Have I scared you or motivated you? For me.... jumping... and that thrill... is something that I'll never forget nor regret. Regardless of the terror I felt that day.... 🙃😱😁

If you ever watch a video of the pros, you'll probably agree it should be an Olympic sport.

I've watched my son in championships doing 4 and 6 ways, amazing, but for me I'll sit and watch. If this had of been around many years ago, I would have been one of those competing.

You stand at the open door and lean into it in the flying position, then off you go.

OMG, jumping solo after only a 3 hour class, totally unheard of these days.

For a while my son taught those who wanted to fly solo, but had to give it up due to work and Uni. He still jumps and use the tunnel for pleasure and competitions.

Still not sure I'm game to jump out of a plane, even if I'm strapped to someone.

Thanks for sharing. I found it very interesting.

Can't help myself, I've got to go to the top every time.

You should try the virtual reality. It's so amazing and so real. At one stage there were other skydivers getting ready to do a formation. One of them came up to me and put his hand out for me to join in. Before I knew it, I was putting my hand out to him to join in. lol

That sounds fabulous but I think I would be scared stiff.

I'm an old hand in the tunnel, but was quite nervous about doing the VR, but once they explained it to me I couldn't wait to try it.

It was so bloody loud and very out of my comfort zone.
But I survived! lol

Well done in doing something out of your comfort zone. They should have given you ear plugs so it wasn't so loud.

Did you go to the top of the tunnel? I do it every time.

One more flight and I'll be in double figures, can't wait.

That looks like a lot of fun!

I did regular skydiving once. I consider it a badge of honour that I didn't soil my underwear when I lost contact with the plane.

It is so much fun. I'll leave the real skydiving to and others. Think I'd pass out, even being strapped to someone who does it for a living.

I did see a video of a person who did pass out, I was laughing so much at his panic when he came too, I couldn't breath. I had to watch it a few times. Best laugh in ages.
