Terrible Customer Service

Recently I contacted passion due to a billing issue. They cut and pasted the same response twice and basically gave me the middle finger because the have my money. The exact e-mail exchange is below:

Date: 12/11/2013

COMMENT:

I'm not sure who changed my setting to auto renew, but I never did. I have never chosen auto renew in all my membership time. Please explain. Please don't attempt to convince me that I did this. I go through great links to ensure that I don't auto renew any account that I have.

Dear Member,

I have reviewed your account and found that the Auto-Renewal feature is not activated. Hence, your subscription will not be renewed two days before your expiration date of 11/28/2014.

If you have any further billing related questions, feel free to contact the Billing Department directly at:

Thank you,

I just de-activated it 15 minutes ago. I'm asking who made it auto. I did not want another year of your service.

Dear x,

When you purchase a premium membership, the following message is provided on the order form as notice of our Auto-Renew policy:

"Your subscription will be automatically renewed after its initial term expires. You can easily turn off this auto-renewal feature on your preferences page."

Your account will be renewed and the prices for renewal depend on the status and length of your membership. You can see the renewal prices on the credit card upgrade page next to the amount you have selected.

If you wish to turn off your auto renew feature please follow these steps:

1. Log into http://passion.com using your handle and password.
2. From your member Homepage, click on the "My Account/Update" link from the top menu.
3. Under Membership Status click on "billing history"
4. At the top of the page you will see product status.
5. You can turn on or off the auto renew for your subscription, highlight and chat room under this section.

All renewals will be charged 2 days prior to expiration so there will be no lost time. Make sure to turn off the auto renew function at least 4 days prior to expiration if you do not want to renew your premium membership.

**Reminder: the status of the renewal is in the black text, the blue text is the link to turn the option on or off**

We hope this clarifies the situation for you. How would you like us to proceed with this renewal?

If you have any further billing related questions, feel free to contact the Billing Department directly at:

Thank you,

Sir,
I do not believe you are listening to me. I've been a member of this site for over 10 years. I am very aware of the auto renew and the status display on the front page. I have never had auto renew activated. I was surprised when this was the case on 11/28/13. You are explaining this to me as if I'm new to the site and this is the first time my membership has come up for expiration. I am no fool. I know that I have never elected to auto renew. My question is how did my preference change. Please do not attempt to bamboozle me with cut and pastes of how to opt for the auto renew or opt out of the auto renew. Someone changed my preference and my card was charged accordingly. That someone works for passion.
I want to know who changed my option and set into motion the events that caused the unauthorized charging of my card.

Thank you.

Thanks for sending the same post twice. Thanks for your lack of giving a damn. I am severing my ties with passion after 10 plus years. You guys suck.

I agree, they are doing everything they can to drive people away. This used to be a really good site.

I guess that explains why some of my favorites from years past are not here anymore... I just wish I knew where they could have gone... I could not revew my gold membership due to how the economy downturn and recession affected my income... LL... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

From what I've read, in other blogposts on this subject, this site has an automatic feature that switches your "turned off auto-renew" just a few days before your paid membership expires.

I've also read that the ONLY way you can get away from this, is to supply them with a fake card number, or a card that will not allow the purchase to be processed on it.

Good luck.

Check out my profile or and become a "watcher" of my blog FMAOPLS,to learn more about me, and for intelligent, lively, smartassy and fun discussion, with a little irreverence thrown in. "Like" or comment on my photos, and I promise I'll add more. Thanks.

I just change the account number or expiration number to make the transaction decline if they ever decide to "auto-renew" my account. Even if its a number off, it won't go through. That's just my own security tactic.

I complained about this a while back and managed to get a refund, not sure why they won't refund you. I told them that they had changed the subscription to auto renew without my permission and politely demanded my money back, expecting a fight, but they gave me it back in full, no argument.

I then changed my account number to a non-existent one so that if they ever sneakily changed it back to auto renew the transaction couldn't ever complete.

Good luck McSlice!
