Deflecting Chaos Around You

Often, you don't get t.o choose what happens t.o you. However, you can choose how you respond. Do you face challenges head-on or does your "flight response" kick-in?

In light of what is happening around the world, this quote seemed particularly poignant.
How do you handle external influences?

That depends...
Have I lost those flashing lights - blazing in my rear view - or have they caught up, requesting an interview?

A contingency is key to any successful game plan. ❗😎👉

I try not to let things get me down. I am very careful and in todays world you have to be. Some folks think covid is a hoax, me I have seen to many folks around me die. Yes I wear a mask when I go into a building with lots of people, I distant my self. But as soon as I walk out the mask comes off, I do not wear it in my vehicle or home. I wear my mask in buildings out of respect of others. I will meet folks outside and talk with them without a mask but I keep a distance. I even went as far and taken my first shot of the vaccine and will go for the second when due. Yes I debated on it, but I am high risk at 65 and history, but am I worried about long term effects, no, I wont be around long enough to worry about long term LOL. I still hug my family when I see them and hope for the best. Just my 2 cents worth

I'm a head-on person. I guess that makes me kinda water proof.

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

It seemed especially relevant given recent events making the headlines.

A contingency plan or an escape plan? Whatever gets you through I suppose is what matters.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing your perspective. Sounds like you have found what works best for you. You are the first person who has indicated to me that they have received the vaccine. I will be checking with my Doctor later this month.

Yes, given what you have shared on your blog and this site, I had a feeling that you were on both counts! Thanks for stopping by.

Yes if the person 'in charge' is not handling things well then you know there's trouble brewing! Thanks for dropping by.

I rarely have the "flight" response. Cancer and this virus havent bested me and I will step forward to any other challenges with an open mind

I have come to believe that most of the crisis' in my life are usually opportunities for me to grow

From my Twelve Step program - there is a sentence in the "Big Book of Alcoholics Anomymous" which reads: "Absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake".
.
And the Eleventh Step in a Twelve Step program reads: "Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understand Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out."

So for me, when the Fight or Flight emotions kick I have found that if I don't do either but rather take deep breath, recite the "absoulutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake" sentence and meditate on the Eleventh Step answers come - sometimes the chaos is so trivial I don't have to do anything except ignore it; sometimes I need to change my thinking, my approach.

Agreed. Most of us who have survived cancer have done so because we fought it head-on. That spirit and tenacity gets us through any challenge we encounter.

Thank you for stopping by and sharing your perspective. I wasn’t familiar with the specifics you quoted from the Twelve Step Program. I truly believe that God doesn’t give us more than we can handle. I for one, am living proof.

Great topic, pretty lady ... I try to remove myself from the chaos, if, at all possible. Like the with news ... I simply limit my intake. I don't need a consistent reminder that people are dying, that there are riots, etc. I wear my mask, social distance, barely leave the house, We have absolutely no control over others and what they choose do to. I'm just trying to live the best life possible for me. This quote also resonated with me - thank you!

In Luv, Lite, Laffter ...

I try to do the same also. I am fortunate my daughter lives with me and we remind each other that we must continue to be diligent and do what’s best for us. My best friend and I also have a weekly chat which we have dubbed our ‘sanity check’. I haven’t seen her since October so I recently switched our chats to a Zoom call and it’s almost like being together 👍.
