Traffic School

I live in southern California where there are millions of drivers on the roads, freeways and highways at any given time. I have a tendency to be a bit of a "lead foot" at times and exceed the speed limit. The last time I got a speeding ticket was in 1995. So, of course eventually it would happen again and recently I was ticketed for doing 57mph in a 45mph zone. I agreed with the officer and admitted I was going too fast. I did not even bother to tell him that I was running late getting back to work. It was the truth but still that is no excuse to exceed the posted speed. It puts everyone at risk and I know better.

I received my fine in the mail about 3 weeks later; it was $237. I was eligible for traffic school so I paid a total of $307 so I could attend. This is one point on my driving record; but attending traffic school the offense is "hidden" from the DMV and my insurance company so my rates do not increase. It was worth it.

My class was last Saturday, from 8am to 4pm. I learned so much about new California laws and the changes. I have had 3 automatic renewals of my drivers license by mail so I have not had to go and take the driving tests in a few years. I just paid my renewal fees and my license was good for another 4 years. In the class last week they really focused on cell phone use; talking and texting while driving. Also on DUI (driving under the influence). Of course we saw videos of blood and guts accident fatalities due to drinking and driving, cell phone use etc. It was a real eye opener....I am not a drinker thankfully, but when they talked about the fines I was blown away and so shocked!

The first offense is a $15,000 fine; loss of drivers license for a year PLUS you must attend alcohol prevention classes and pay for those as well. I could not believe what I was hearing. The fines increase if there is a repeat offense; your license is suspended again and depending on the number of DUI's can result in your license being revoked completely. Then after a certain period of years you can apply for a new license, new number just as if it were your first time getting a driver's license. Then the DMV will make a determination whether to issue one to you. I forgot one thing; after multiple offenses, depending on how many, the court can have a device installed on your car that has you "blow into it" before your car will start with even with the keys in the ignition. If you have been drinking it will not allow the car to start. I had NO idea about this......

Now if I go out on a date for lunch or dinner, and it's a first meet where I drive myself to the restaurant I won't be ordering my usual one glass of white zin wine!! I never have more than one because that results in my clothes falling off!!! LOL Goodness sakes I am glad I went to that class - WOW

$15,000 first offence, this is a bit steep but i guess it does get people's attention, just as it did you KC......Sorry you got caught speeding, sorry you had to pay so much money, but now maybe the world will be a safer place, LOL.....The officer should have been after a real crook, not one of your finest....Thanks for the time and effort you put to making us think about the world... Have a safe day on the west coast...Oh I hear there is rumbling about a big Quake.... hope it doesn't happen.. xoxoxo lonly

Thank you Lonly....you are always so sweet in responding to my blogs. YES we are due for the "big one" out here in quake land. I guess when it's my time it's my time. They scare me but what can I do? If I had a choice I would take a quake any day compared to a hurricane or tornado like you all get. But at least you get a warning and we don't! xoxoxo have a great weekend!

I moved to So, Cal. in 2007, in 2009 I was working at the Spa Resort Casino as a chef in the buffet, and on the way home.. with no traffic on the road. in a 35 mph zone I was doing 47, cop pulled me over, I handed him all them stuff.. asked me if I saw him following me.. I said no, my feet hurt so bad, all I was thinking of was getting home and putting my feet up.

so he gave me the ticket at a lower speed.. so I didn't get 2pts.. only 1
and I paid and didn't go to school.

insurance didn't go up..
that was the last ticket I got , knock on wood.. as I do 80 on the ten..
but I m better in town when I don t have hurting feet on my mind.. LOL

I hear ya rancho.......going 80 MPH on the 10 freeway is normal when traffic is clear enough to do so. But BE careful, like me it took a lot of years before I got another speeding ticket but it was inevitable and finally happened. I know what it is like to want to get OFF you tired feet after 8 hours. Glad you got a little break in 2009; he could have been harder on you. I even have a Los Angeles City Firefighter sticker in the back window of my Camry that has helped me a couple pf times over the years...but NOT this last time. I have slowed way way down now......keep being careful in town and on the 10!

KC.....I hope you don't get the BIG one.....and it turns out to only be noise in someones head....Are the drivers in CA aware that you are now a better driver, and of course you don't text and drive....lol ... Sorry it cost you so much, here it still would have been $150 but , no driving school, unless you were a repeat offender... always good to read your writings, keep it up...and you do have some nice photos.... xoxoxo lonly

I m in Rancho Mirage, and in this section of the 10 till you get to Yucipa depending on the time.. you can do 80 and more. I know I get passed.. I m always in the third lane.. leave the last lane open for the 90's.. lol

I go to San Bernardino a few times a year to take a teacher for meetings..
so while he is there at his meetings, I go to San Manuel casino..
most times I just go to walk around with out worrying about getting watched for watching.. not being harassed for walking, and sometimes I even play a slot machine..
two time I walked ways from the slots , one time with $800.. and one time with $279..

don t know why that was the amount but, I ll take it..
I think your sticker might help.. but I think because your a woman might help even more..LOL

I m just saying.. but.. I m sure women can get off easier then guys.. just like this site..LOL

One of the best billboards I've seen shows a driver being given a breathalyzer test - with the words "you just blew $10,000" written below the picture.
