Random gun killing People get upset about random gun mass murders. But not upset enough to stop them. New Zealand, Australia, and Sweden took action. They bought up guns, restricted access to guns and made gun ownership more difficult. They cut down mass gun killing. The U.S. is not ready to take action. My guess is it will never be. We have over 300 million guns already. We have the Second Amendment. We have many gun lovers. We have many lone wolf mad males with access to guns. Background checks will not stop determined killers from access to guns. There are many large magazines for guns out there. The Las Vegas shooting killed many and nothing happened, except a ban on bump stocks. The criminal minded can get or make a bump stop. So get used to random gun murders. Your personal odds of being shot are very small. You can reduce the chance of random death avoiding free rock concerts, movie theaters, schools and churches. The greater risk from guns is suicide by gun, so do not have a gun in the house. Guns make killing easy. But many more die from smoking, car accidents, falling getting into the shower or tub, and drinking too much alcohol. In life you have to live and take your chances. So focus on getting the odds in your favor. |

Less than 2,000 people a year die from mass gun shootings, defined as more than four killed by random killings. More than 22,000 die from gun suicides. Eleven times as many deaths, if you can do the math. Any death that is avoidable is one to avoid, but the numbers say we should focus on decreasing gun suicides.

Some will accuse me of being cold and heartless for comparing death rates. But when you try to change policies it helps to try to be rational. Something Americans do not focus on when emotions take control of us. Having fewer people die from guns is a good goal. There are facts available from the Everytown for gun safety web site.

The answer is do not have a gun in the house, then you or a family member will not commit suicide or accidentally injure or kill yourself.

The other answer is vote for Democrats who will push for more gun control, not the GOP who loves the NRA.

But the short answer is random gun violence is part of the American way. Get used to it and try to avoid it in your life.

You can see the gun nuts have an erection over the guns and don't care about the victims of gun violence. Including themselves. Guns work really well to kill and maim. The question is whether you want a really good killing machine around the house. Cars kill and injure many, but they also are useful to go to work, the market and the beach. Guns are useful for hunting and self protection and committing suicide. How many use hand guns to shoot birds and deer? In the cities high power rifles are not useful for self protection. Birds are too small and fast for rifles, you need a shotgun. Who needs an assault weapon for home protection? the fantasy is we will fight off Putin with hand guns. Nuclear weapons and tanks and air power is more likely to deter Russia, China and North Korea. Not your gun or rifle. The coup attempt is more likely from the right wing than from socialists.

I delete and ban all gun nuts, so enjoy your five minutes of stupidity on my blog. Go spread your gun masturbation on your own blog. Guns should be registered like cars, insured like cars, owners licensed like cars and gun owners tested on gun safety and marksmenship, like car drivers tested on car safety and rules of the road.
