The dog is in the closet

Gracie's a pretty clean dog in general. She can go wading in muck and be clean again in an hour.
Those nests under the eaves are paper wasps- the brown native paper wasp is pretty easy going but the striped yellow and black European paper wasps are quite prickly. Yellowjackets live in large colonies- sometimes with thousands of wasps, nesting in the ground or inside the walls and soffits of houses.

Oh, well, Texas squirrels. That explains a lot. They elect squirrels governor down there. Which, what the hell, isn't that much worse than what we've done here lately. Our governor looks more like a clown though.

No wonder people are afraid of clowns there are governors under that makeup. Just look where AZ is now, clowns run it and AZ is near bottom education “wise”. But I believe we have an edjumacation goal – waste even more dollars on political village-idiots and we will hit bottom even sooner.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

It gets discouraging. It's easy to forget that politics has always been low comedy and crowded with creeps. When there's a crisis, there are certain people who will jump up and say "I'll handle this! Follow me!" and those people are exactly the ones we do not want handling anything.

There is an anti-intellectual trend now though that's alarming. It's seems that the meaner and dumber the statements made by demagogues, the more one faction seems to cheer. That IS depressing. What's so wrong with being smart, tolerant and measured?

completely jealous of the array of fall colors you get .. we go from green to yellow to dead. No reds or oranges to speak of, save a few species of small trees or shrubs here and there. And as always, your pics are fantastic!

Look at that color! Nice. We have a few more weeks before we see that kind of show.
Great shots! Worth the wait.

There is a difference between a good BJ and a bad BJ.

The trees in the low spots are dropping leaves quickly now. Today is alternately rainy and sunny, and cool There's quite a breeze and that will bring a lot more leaves down. This doesn't last long and you gotta get it while you can!

It's a glorious time of year.
PD pampers Gracie and caters to her every need. Gracie gives it back with enthusiasm.

    Great pics Kzoo!
    The season is changing fast.
What is that in the fourth pic?
It's a hornet nest- an empty one. I might not have got that close to a full one. I really dislike hornets.

I think Autumn is THE best time for hiking and I can see you've been enjoying yourselves. Thanks as always for sharing the photos.

Great pics, kzoo! I love all the beautiful autumn colours.

I took my nephew and mum to Finlaystone Country Estate on Friday. It has gorgeous gardens, although our main objective these days is to entertain my five year old nephew so we don't get to see much of the gardens when there's a huge play area for him

However, I did take this picture of a flower I don't recognise. I must remember and mail the country estate to ask them what it is. It looks like a poppy from afar, and close up, as you can see, has what looks like a thistle in the middle

I do enjoy the various seasons, but as we had no summer to speak of in Scotland this year I feel cheated! But that aside I am enjoying the sunny, autumn days, the changing colours of the leaves, and live in hope of a decent summer next year

Anyway, I thought you might like to see this

It sure looks like a poppy to me. Maybe it's a hybrid? It's beautiful- thanks for posting it here.

I had the same thing happen when taking our grandson to the Air Zoo here. They have a great aeronautical museum, but they added a lot of rides for kids and all he wanted to do was ride the rides. I hate rides and they make me barf. I wanted to see the planes!
