Country music = incompatible. Very into oral = very compatible.

Well, I hope they will like the same kinds of movies I do...Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter...if not, it's not a deal breaker. It's more of a bonus points kind of situation. Bonus points in the "pro" column if they have watched Game of Thrones, read Harry Potter, like Disney...and if they like country music.

Oh, yeah...mmmmmhmmmmm...

Probably which ever one is stuck in my brain at the time. I don't think he'll really care which one it is, as long as there is humming.

Good question. If someone says they are into , or gospel, I prob wont be compatible with them. If they dont like sushi, well, maybe I can teach them. If they HUNT, nope, they are history. If they are into horror movies, not jokes like the sharknadoes, but true horror, then I dont think it would work out either. Prob other things, positive, if I think on it.

Hahahaha! Yeah, that one probably won't work...if he even recognizes the tune...I kinda think his mind will be on other things, lol. (At least I hope so, or I'm not doing a good enough job...)

Probably music - if she totally doesn't "get" jazz, not a good sign.

It would probably seem like I have too many dealbreakers, but in practice all of these things tend to go together into a certain lifestyle which is not particularly compatible with mine.

Harley rider
Snowmobiler
Hunter
Likes modern country music and/or heavy metal
Fundamentalist religion
Trump voter

Age and cultural gaps...absolutely. It can create conflict when your life experiences are so different that you can't understand the other's point of view...such as a man with no children or maybe no grandchildren...will he resent if I put my kids or grandkids first in certain situations?

As I'm typing this, I'm also thinking, shouldn't those things NOT matter? In trying to "bring peace" to the world, we encourage each other to try to understand people who are different than we are...try to "walk in their shoes"...wouldn't we want to do that in a relationship??

I have NO idea on the answers to those questions, even for myself...they just popped up so I spit them out for further thought and discussion.

Perhaps, in the understanding across cultures thing...it's about finding how we are similar instead of focusing on how we are different as a large group, and not so much individually.

Holy moly. This is too much thinking for late at night.

Her: "What kind of movies do you like?"
Me: "Hard-core anime."
Her: "Surely you can't be serious?"
Me: "I am serious. And don't call me 'Shirley'."

If she doesn't get that gag, then we're probably not compatible.

I'm at that age where half the men I might be interested in could be right-wing nut jobs so generational markers matter less than current ideology. It sucks to get a blank look tho, when you mention something that made such an impact on society back in the day! Or when you realize someone you thought was 50 is talking about Woodstock or Watergate lol!

Aaaah OK. Lately I *am* realizing how old I am. I was at the place where I volunteer and mentioned to one of the (much younger) volunteers that one particular assignment is "like being the Maytag repairman". She gave me a totally blank look and I realized she was too young to have ever seen the commercial where the Maytag repairman has nothing to do because the washing machines are so reliable

But I don't exactly consider not knowing that commercial a dealbreaker haha.

I do remember a first date where the guy was kind of an old curmudgeon and all of the music he liked was pretty old....and he actually said, "there's been no good music after 1980!" It's not just that that was one of my favorite musical eras, it was the lack of open mindedness, to think that there was NOTHING that might musically interest him after 1979.

Ha, well, my mind likely is twisted already, and it's been that way for awhile...I let myself go down the dark hole but usually don't share it.

This has been interesting post to check back in. Smartasswoman's reference to the Maytag commercials...omg...yes. It's that stuff. They could be a great guy, but if I make reference to things like that and they don't get it...that'll just make me feel old, and who the hell wants that.

I suppose it goes both ways, though, personally, my kids make sure I'm not the out of touch 50 year old who can't follow the conversation of 20 year olds (and they usually don't laugh too hard if I'm lost and ask them to explain something, lol).
