Word Stings

He knew of
My love for butterflies
Yet he brought
A swarm of bees
Into a fight.
Going for the jugular
Of my self esteem.

These word stings
How can I overlook them?
I would be a fool
Not to think
He wouldn't employ
Them once again.
It took so little
To bring them on
This time.

Its basically
His true colors revealed
For with every harsh word
Every harsh assessment
There was little chance
Of going back
To the days of butterflies
The days of spreading
Cheer and happiness.
