No. Some won't figure out what you want to hear  LOL I do believe there really are genuine people out there who don't say things just to get what they want. It can be hard to tell when someone is playing a game, of if they really mean what they say though. And then there are those who seem to like to fall in and out of love very quickly, who mean what they say but they are different from day to day.

Yes, self preservation is a powerful psychological motivator for all people. They may not even realize it, subconsciously enough, but it drives our actions good and bad.

That is the $$$$ Million $$$$ question. On A.F.F. you can never be to sure....my best advice would be to very thorough. If you plan on meeting someone make sure you at least speak on the phone and get several pictures or view a cam of the person before you meet. This way you wont be let down.

Just like the real world...there's a range. Some have an agenda, and within the context of a site like this, yes, most will be driven by their personal motivation that got them active with the site in the first place...especially, I think, the newer a member is to the site and having assumptions that might not map to the reality here. I think that for me personally, I've moved in the direction of communicating with "friends" that have happened over time and generally getting some entertaining from perusing the various sections here...reading, seeing, watching, "talking". Lots of silly behavior you can see happening that makes for good laughter. We're not all flakes though and some here actually do succeed well in not being genuine. You do have to sort through a hefty amount of BS to find what is authentic..just like elsewhere in your various "worlds". Does that help?
