Let's go on an adventure!

Starting feel a little like the crazy cat lady shut in... I decided it was time for the Spawn and I trek out and see a new sight.

McGulpin Point Lighthouse it was!

It's not that often that it's sunny and 45 degrees November 28th in Northern Michigan, we had make the most of what will probably be one of the last nice days for 2020!

The wind was icy and Lake Michigan was angry... But, there were beautiful sights be seen.

I have say, I found it a little odd that this particular lighthouse isn't actually the water, instead, it's a hill and through some trees from the shoreline....

It makes me wonder if that is what the shore line looked like in 1868 when it was first constructed.

I'm betting that shoreline has barely changed in all those years.
I'll bet your right.

it's nice to go to the water and just be

appreciate the sounds and the views

years ago, I would travel to Brazil on business

on one trip I asked the cab drive to stop at Ipanema Beach in Rio de Janeiro

I took off my socks and shoes and ran into the sand

    jumped up and down

then, took a moment to take it all in

then, it was back to business as usual

    thanks for sharing

    I'm in the mood
    The rhythm is right
    Move to the music
    We can roll all night
    Oh slow ride
Oh slow ride, take it easy
    Slow ride, take it easy
Slow down, go down, got to get your lovin' one more time
Hold me, roll me, slow ridin' woman you're so fine
One of the things I love doing most is beach walking... Listening to the water and watching the waves, real life has a way of just melting away. Just love it!

I did have a good day! It's been a nice, long, relaxing 4-day weekend. I've needed this for a while....

I went house hunting with my dog, the "nice house" we saw on the internet turned out to be a "burned out" shell of a home.
Still house hunting? I thought you had found your dream home.... Must not have had a big enough porch.

TicklePlease has a great point. Another is that the lighthouse was built on the hill to reduce the cost of construction while obtaining the needed height to be seen from the distance. Maybe the builders thought that shoreline erosion might also be an issue. The trees would have been controlled while the light was the means of navigation.

It sounds like you had a great day away.
I agree about the trees... I was able to find some old photos online and it looked like the trees weren't always there in the way that they are now. We did have a pretty fun day, the weather was beautiful, cold but beautiful!

I don't think it was moved... This lighthouse was actually privately owned up until 2009. I did some researching this morning and found some old photos online, it looks like the trees weren't always there the way they are now, they would have had a clearer view of the lake.

I have 5 lighthouses within an hours drive of me... Like this one, they've all been restored to as close to their original state as possible. I'd really like to see some of the ones that are downstate as well. Perhaps next summer when we hopefully aren't on lockdown.

The Light is shinning and she is lonely and waiting in the darkness.

Spawn, lake, water, wind, waves... random lighthouse; sounds like a perfect day. 🌹
It actually was a pretty good day. I've been feeling kind of like a shut in, not going anywhere or doing anything... It was good to get out. Plus, I haven't been going to the gym as there are now 4 positive COVID cases where I work, 3 of which are recovered and back to work, so the last thing I want to do is become sick and not know it and spread it to the gym. The hike felt good!

    Citer TicklePlease:
Oh, is that the Mackinac Bridge in the background? I did that boat tour of the bridge while I was there in the summer of 2019 and wowsa, totally recommend it to anyone!

Not sure if it's the same idea but here in Delaware, we have a few lighthouses that are set back into the land and it's for triangulation/alignment purposes... apparently if the captain follows the correct channel, the lighthouse lights on the edge of the water and the ones back inland will all line up, and the captain will see one light. If he gets off course, they'll notice because then they'll see two lights!
Yes, it is the Mackinaw Bridge in the background! Good eye! This lighthouse is only 2 miles from Old Mackinaw Point Lighthouse, I don't know why it's taken me this long to actually explore this particular lighthouse. I've been to Old Mackinaw a million times... The triangulation thing would make sense as this lighthouse is set back quite a distance from the shore line.
