Let's play a little game.  When did I become that person who is so excited about their new vacuum purchase that they can't wait to get home to use it? My 18 year old self is cringing in horror.... Old Reliable had actually not been performing the way I like for quite some time, I just didn't realize how bad a job she was actually doing. The moment I got home last night I put the Hip Young Thing together and immediately set out to vacuuming the apartment. I was a kid with a new toy!! Let me tell you, I wanted to just DIE when I saw the stuff that was being pulled out of my carpet. And, that's no exaggeration.... A hair ball had formed at the top, by the filter, that was about the size of a baseball. Both the Spawn and I have long hair but I had no idea how much hair we shed. The dirt bin?? Full! Dust... Fuzz.... Particulate matter.... God knows what else.... In an exaggerated gesture, I pulled the collection bin from the vacuum and set it on the counter, calling out to the Spawn to see the horrors I was seeing. When I pulled out the hair ball I threatened to throw it at her while she was recoiling in disgust. "Oh My God Mom! That's waste hair. Yuck!" "I wonder how long it's been hanging out on the floor?" "Some things need to be left a mystery." I'd say the Hip Young Thing was the smartest purchase I've made all month. Happy Thursday! |

Thankfully my home got rid of carpeting over 12 years ago. I have a Rainbow that still works like a charm on wood flooring and tiles for hard to reach spots. But let me tell you, the first time I used my Rainbow on the then carpeting I nearly died. Since it uses a water canister for the debris the water was so pitch black.... argh! And dust is created by evil dust bunnies. Everyone knows that!

I've got a Dyson. That thing sucks! lol I'm thinking it could probably suck the spots off a Dalmatian!

I love my tile and concrete floors. I have very little carpet left. My only vacuum is a large wet dry vac.

I have to say that I also went to that state of euphoria last year when my trusty old sucker gave up. I went out and got a new one and also was shocked about what the old sucker was missing. I'll match my new one against your new one!

God, it was embarrassing how excited I was when I put the new filters in my Shark and saw how much better it worked. Glad I'm not the only one!

Don't cringe for your 18 year old self - we all know (particularly these days) adult life sucks - besides, what 18 yo ever cleaned the house?

I was vacuuming one day when Old "Tried & True" began too smoke  Went shopping later for a replacement Got it home (same brand & style) , put it together and started in on the Living-room floor ! Did Not get even half of the 15 x 25 ft. area done and canister was Full  Old one; I would do Living-room & Dining-room before Full

I vacuumed again tonight.... It still pulled up a ton of crap. No hair this time, thank God. That was SO gross.... I don't really get that much sand in my apartment since it's upstairs and my front door opens into a hallway, but I am curious what would be under the carpet.
