Fun facts about the Russian Blue cat breed.

A lot of people recognize the breed many do not because " a cat is a cat" , not so..I have worked with many prominent cat breeds and one in particular is the Russian Blue..They are considered very unique as a prominent breed among cat lovers especially for their loyal and one person pal. A medium sized cat breed with a bluish grey coat and beautiful emerald green eyes the Russian Blue is certainly a sight to behold and capture your attention.I seen a few at a cat show or two but in reality there are not a lot around in the ordinary household unless you are lucky to find one for adoption..The breeders offer this breed but at some ridiculously high prices..I was lucky to across the breed in my travels as an SPCA Officer.
I fostered a few one time for the local SPCA and I was amazed the adaptness and intelligence of this breed..Although they are not the only cat in the world with blue in its name , but they certainly stand out as a unique breed .There are the Chartreux cat breed of France with the blue hue to their coats and the Korat of Thailand and British shorthair .Unlike most kittens born with blue eyes the Russian Blue is born with bright yellow eyes and by 4 months there is a bright green ring around the pupil. The dense coat of the Russian Blue developed because of the long winters on the Archangels Isles in Northern Russia. The breed is favoured among the royalty as a preferred breed, and it has been rumored a Russian Blue healed the son of a Russian Czar when the cat slept with the and kept him warm when he was sick with a severe fever.
A well known fun fact about the Russian Blue it is well known for its smile the upturned mouth makes it look like its smiling.Another fact is the coat is very short but extremely dense and gives them a good advantage because if by some chance they escape the house they can survive some of the harshest weather..They are also known for being somewhat as a hypoallergenic type of breed because they have very low levels of the fel-d-1 which houses a protein in the saliva and counts for allergic itching and wheezing..their pads are bright pink even though their noses are dark grey ...They are very traditional and rituals are set in stone , if you feed this cat at 6 in the morning you better be prepared to do 6 every morning .they are meticulous about grooming , feeding and litter box habits ..they rarely go off of their schedule..they are also loyal and a one person cat , tending to follow you around and not let you too far out of sight..thanx for reading

If I ever get a cat, this is one of the more likely possibilities for me. I'd love to have a cat, but my allergies are pretty bad. It's a shame there's no allergen-free cat options, but low allergen is better than most. Unfortunately, I highly doubt that I'll be able to afford a purebreed any time soon, and with my allergies I don't want to gamble on anything less. So ... one day. I can dream.

Even an herb as sweet as basil is nothing without its bite.

I did a lot of extensive rearch on many breeds and one thing I tell everyone who has allergies is to check the breeds and then check the rescues or the SPCA"s and put your name in for the specifics you are looking for ..no one cat is allergen free but the ones who are low on the list are the real shorthairs like the Russian Blue or even the Burmese korat sphinx and british shorthair..something is bound to turn up..
