Throw Me a Party🎉... When I'm Dead and Gone 😄... I'll Bring The Music 🎶 🤗

Note : A F F is deleting words in the text. Please be patient.

Last Sunday, I spent the afternoon at the cemetery. It was a hot and balmy, June day. Fat, grey squirrels, scurried amongst the gravestones. A clear blue sky and a lush green vista... framed my view. The scent of apple blossoms and lilac, filled the air. I stood there... amongst the dead. It was quiet and peaceful. But I was there, for a purpose.

There is, a Christian Orthodox tradition, 'Trinity Sunday' (celebrated eight weeks after Easter, on the 'Julian Calender' ), where ALL the departed, are honored with a gravesite ceremony. It's presided by family and friends and a priest. The prayer and incense infused, 'Thurible' blessing is brief - but it brings people together.

When my grandmother was alive, we'd all go back to her home and have a simple meal. The adults would recall stories and share memories and drink shots of vodka. They'd spend time laughing and reminiscing. As a kid... I'd just look forward, to eating Grandma's roasted chicken and garlic mashed potatoes. Since my grandmother passed away, WE all just go, our separate ways... home. Kinda sad, when I think about it. But what I saw, as I drove through the cemetery... struck me. Some people - still get it RIGHT !

I was heading towards the Main Gates, when I passed a cluster of people, spread out by a gravestone. Blankets on the ground, marked a crawl way, for the tiny toddlers, too small to walk. The women sitting there, doled out bread and meats and cheeses and... filled up plastic glasses, with wine. Younger children played round the monuments, chasing each other, giggling. The men stood by, telling stories, while they laughed and toasted in the air, with arms raised.

Ya know... I think that's the way, I'd like to be remembered. When I'm dead and gone, throw me a fucking PARTY... by my gravesite. Bring on the food and wine and vodka. Oh and... put the music up, FULL blast. It'll be tough, for me to hear the tunes!

Damn... I thought of something; "They better not play any fricken disco ." I'll start working, on that music mix. I wonder, what my first song would be?

.........................................
So...
Ya think you'd want, or deserve, a party in your honor, when you're gone?
What would be, your first tune? 🤔

Heck yeah. Everyone deserves a party, no? I'd rather have people laughing and having a great time at my grave, than standing there crying.
So... I'm going to ramp up my good deeds to everyone and try and be REAL nice to my brother, for as long as I can. Until he pisses me off again...
I mean... who wants to be remembered as a quiet, lonely grouch, right? 😮 😊
They better bring a good sound system! 🔊😂
That first song? Hmmm... Something with a good beat to it ; ZZ Top..." Le Grange" ... maybe...

Yeah... That whole gravesite thing sounds morbid, a bit. But many cultures celebrate death , rather than grieve in anguish. I'd like to hope, that I'll have left a positive mark on this place. When I'm gone, I hope the party continues. What about you?
Oh and... I'm not planning on going anywhere, for a while... 😊 So I think I've got some time, to get better, at getting better. Ya know what I mean? 🤔

I did this kind of thing for my late husbands memorial service. We did a cookout on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, appropriate in more ways than one since we always had a big cookout on that weekend every year. The usual group that came for the cookouts were there, about 75 to 80 people total. His eulogy was more along the lines of stories told about him, some I had never heard before, some brought tears to my eyes, some made me laugh. HE was cremated, his ashes spread across the property, so I'm always at his graveside when I am home. And the music? Three songs in particular I wanted played. Warren Zevon - "Keep me in your heart", (my choice) Jimmy Buffet's "One Particular Harbor" (his request), and lastly, Willie Nelsons "To all the girls I've loved before", which made everyone laugh, yet suited him so well. We had discussed this the year before he died, it was amazing how easily it all came together.

Cremate me and spread my ashes. I want no funeral, wake or memorial. I dont want anyone to go to any expense. I hate the death is a business that people get rich off of. If I were to have song at the free pot luck memorial it would Leonard Cohen - Closing time and Neil Young - Harvest Moon... cliche

What a coincidence that we'd both be in a cemetery at the same time... 300 miles apart. 😊
Pippo great song selection. Can you imagine THOSE songs blasting across the headstones? Wow! I'll bet you, some of the residents would tap their feet and boogie along with you? 🤗
I should have asked, if you had a special meal you'd like served in your honour. For me? Ribs and bbq chicken with potato salad. Can I serve two? 🤔 lol 😂

Wow! That's a really great story. It sounds like everyone had a really great time. 👍
Did you post your comment, so that I'd get teary eyed? You know how emotional I am... 😊
Yep... I can relate to THAT vibe.
Ya think... people will party with the same resolve... when your time comes? 🤔
Great song selection, by the way... 😊

That's a heavy game to play...
At your party... what song would you like them to play? 🤔
You're not going anywhere soon... take your time on that choice... Or choose many! 👍

I've already kinda planned for my Grand Finale. I have a collection of shot glasses from my travels. I told my daughter, fill 'em up, give me a toast and let them keep the shot glass as a remembrance. I never thought of music. hm. How about some Three Dog Night "Joy to the World"

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

Wow... sounds traumatic. I can relate to THAT.
Sharing 6 and 6 ... sounds like a plan... 😊👍
I'm from a huge community and a culture, where... after the first couple of open coffins... I just accepted it. So do my kids.
I've been desensitized? 🤔 Yep...
I always recall the person the way I remember them, rather than what they look like in that box.
Hey.. A big fat Wake... might be just what your friends are looking for? lol
Thanks for sharing your pov. Those early experiences ARE traumatic... yep I get it.
If you had to pick ⛏ a song... what would it be?

Who can go wrong with, "... Johnny Walker wisdom...", right? Both... good songs. 😊
I'm partial to that Leonard song though.
Any favorite food, you'd want served in your honour? 🤔
Yep... That.. Leonard song, would be a classic and.. bring the house down! 👍

Wtf is going on.? Why is everyone making me cry? That's a great song! 👍 😊
I should reconsider my ZZ Top Choice. I was looking for a vibe.. not anything deep.
Yep.. that's a good one for sure!
I guess it has special meaning for you? 🤔
Anything on the menu for your guests, before they feed you to the fish in that beautiful lake? 🤔
I haven't heard that song since forever.. You like Warren? ❤️

Any food choices? Not that you're going to be able to taste them... lol 😂
Hey... 😊 Shots? I'm game.
I'd share a story... about you.... with the crowd.. 🎶 ❤️

This is my epitaph that I wrote,

In a Big Truck, Going somewhere:

In mountain snow or desert heat,
A big ol' Kenworth or Long nose Pete.
In city smog or high clean air
Put me in a Big Truck, going somewhere.

Groceries for the store or parts for ur car,
Medicine for Mom, or even a candy bar.
Without us rolling the shelves would be bare,
But we're in a Big Truck, get'n it here.

When I'm at my last marker and I've met my fate,
My loads all delivered, I'm at that last gate.
I hope God will know I've earned my place there,
In a Big Truck, go'n somewhere!

I want to be cremated, my ashes tossed off an overpass on a "Big Road"
with "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC blasting!

Yes. I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. When I was 5 I went to a funeral of a friend of mine who was hit by a truck.
Fuck me... I don't know how my parents could have taken me to THAT show. My gosh. Freaked me right out... and I was 5. So... I get it... how freaked put you must have been. Yeah. Well.. I wish someone had been there to hug you and make things better.
Yes... I understand exactly.... It's not a fun experience.
I have gotten used to it. 🤔 It's not better.... but I close my eyes... and just recall their image. Life is Fucked up. So sorry to trip you out on this.
Hey
.. have a shot on me and come back next time. I guarantee a LAUGH! 👍

Oh, I have a few small requests... and these are to remind people that I had an off-beat, somewhat macabre sense of humor, and hopefully to set off a few giggles, eye rolls, and head shakes.

At my viewing/memorial, I wish to have the song "Pop Goes the Weasel" play, right before the start of anything that anyone wants to say.

I also wish to have someone dressed up as the Grim Reaper, complete with scythe (fake of course but real-looking), who will randomly point to someone in the audience every now and then.

In addition, I wish to have on the inside of the memorial pamphlets, two lyrical quotes from two of my favorite bands:

"A tous le monde, a tous mes amis, Je vous aime, Je dois partir", from A Tout le Monde by Megadeth.

"My body lies, yet still I roam", from Wherever I May Roam by Metallica.

Various other selected music that touches on such a somber time will be playing also. Though I haven't really compiled a permanent list of that yet.

What to do with my body? Well, for those who truly wish to "keep me around", there are these pendants you can buy that will hold a very small amount of a loved one's ashes, and they hang from a necklace.

There are also these places that will take your cremated remains, and place you into a biodegradable potted container with a tree seed in it, to be planted in the ground. This creation is based off of the saying We were born of the Earth, and to the Earth we shall return, and I think both of those items/things are very interesting and thoughtful to do for a departed loved one.

Or my next of kin can just BBQ my happy arse, stick a small amount of me in a batch of brownies, and EAT ME!

"Be who you are and say what you feel. Those who matter won't mind, and those who mind won't matter." ~ Dr. Seuss.

Its Potluck... bring what you want and dont mind having left overs of... as long as there are no green peppers in anything. I hate green peppers. In homage to me, no green peppers at the pot luck.
