Nothing Is Original Anymore... So Steal From Everywhere ...😊

We live in a society of lazy, unimaginative, 'pretend' content providers. They've seeped into all the tiny cracks of social media, movies, music, pictures and few - have anything original to say.

Does that mean it's all been said?

These free range plagiarists, copy and paste across all levels of society and happily ply their craft with impunity - and claim something as their own - while everyone around them, ignorantly applauds (the rebranded stuff they spew)... and pats them on the back. People are too ignorant, lazy and indifferent to really give a shit.

And heck... does THAT - thought, picture, song, poem or story - really... 'look' all THAT similar to the original? Most people don't even care, if an original exists ; they're too busy clapping, to notice. I've clapped once or twice. I guess I'm guilty as well.

Here's what someone else thought about this topic. It was nicely stated. I wanted to steal it but instead, I give him credit at the end.
................................

"Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows.

Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it.

In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to."

Does original thought exist? 🤔

Y'all ain't finding much on most dot coms.
And you've got to really, really hunt for it - in order to find it anywhere else. Books... now there must be something original still being printed somewhere, isn't there?

Don't get me started on music... And what about movie remakes? Ooops... THERE'S a good one for ya. 🍷🍷😎

So Paul I guess we should say we are all borrowing things now, that's an interesting idea that way no one can claim it's their own work. You know even when we do our own work, some people have stolen it and claimed it was theirs as well. So I think there needs to be a better plan for this, but I appreciate you sharing this with us as it truly is food for thought.

I hope you have a great Friday and your staying safe..

Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

There is a lot of food for thought. I don't know why this thing came up in my brain.
I listen to this radio station and they highlight songs that sound like other songs - and it's shocking

But you can take this thought about 'originality' and apply it to anything. Right?
But that last line saves things. At least I think so.
"It's not where you take things from ... it's where you take them to ".
That might have been my point.

Yes - I believe original thought exists though it's uncommon. Unique ideas - much more rare.

Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

Paulxx001 replies on 20/3/2020 15h54:
Although... unique 'crazy' ideas exist; all over the place. Are those worthy because they're original?
I struggle with adjectives... sometimes. I mean, how many different ways are there to describe a snow flake... or a man kissing a naked woman? 🤔
Has someone perfected those letters into a perfect phrase that can't be duplicated?

Are those worthy because they're original?

Who am I to determine worthiness?

If it makes me laugh or smile... or if I think about it.
That's original... isn't it? 🤔

Sometimes plagiarism is deliberate; sometimes it's unconscious (George Harrison - My Sweet Lord/He's So Fine).

If I'm doing a straight cut and paste of someone else's words (deliberate), I give credit. Usually I try to give credit even if it's my own words but they were inspired by someone else's thoughts.

That's what I really like about Blogland when it's working at it's best...people riffing on each others' themes.

Paulxx001 replies on 20/3/2020 20h32:
George Harrison is a perfect example. Hmmm... And the Tom Petty song that was copied.
Those are the obvious examples... There are tons.
I think it's almost impossible to be un-influenced. It's about what you do with it afterwards.
Check out the quotes on honesty.
Thousands.. and they almost all say the same things...
How many different ways are there to say the same thing?

I wonder if I was too vague... Ya know what I mean?
I should have listed more examples. from music and movies.
But originality is a state of mind.
If you've never heard the original - 'Twist and Shout' - ya might think the Beatles wrote it.
Or did they simply improve on it? 🤔

I don't mind, I like reruns.

Paulxx001 replies on 20/3/2020 21h18:
True... I don't mind watching a good movie multiple times.
I get edgy when I read identical points of view on tech issues, where they've all plagiarized each other.
Songs.... Those are the ones that I notice. It's bizarre how similar some of them are. But that's just me... I guess... I spend too much time listening to details.

I would love to know if this could be proven scientifically as anything else is simply conjecture. However, I will speculate our perceptions, thoughts and ideas are influenced by everything we see, hear, touch, taste, smell and read.

Paulxx001 replies on 21/3/2020 4h36:
Wow... That's pretty well thought out. Maybe you should have written this thing.
I agree... we're constantly being influenced by what's been going on around us. We synthesize it - then come up with our own version of it. That's what you meant right?
Ever write something and not quite get what it was you scribbled? lol 😂
Ooops... 🍷🍷😎❗

When i post herre and have "borrowed" from another place I try really hard to say where it came from ( cookies are a good example as are some virus data.) But to give credit to all the virus data I compiled- it's just not possible so I listed the sources with the exception of specific medical folks I know. Makes one wonder if Microsoft was an original?

I think it's impossible to give everyone credit for everything. But it's what you do with what you find - that's more important than having found it.
I should have given more examples of identical songs. Darn... I had a ton to share.
Oh well... a blog Idea for another day.🍷🍷 Be safe... 😊

art, music, ideas, even data. the orginality comes from an individuals different perspective on it.

Paulxx001 replies on 21/3/2020 9h06:
You're right about that... it's what you do with it. 🤔
Hmmm... so now what? Got any good ideas? 💦🔥❗⭕🍷🍷😎😁

Actually Paul, and let's take music for example, I've often wondered what else a person can find to sing about, cos all that there is seems to be taken - love, heart break, oh just every kinda emotion and experience everybody has ever had - guess all a song writer can do now is try a new and diff angle, approach - of course a tune can make or break a song as well - it will either appeal or not?!

..... And always 'hold onto all those sexy thoughts'!

Musical 🎶 notes - those used to create a song - are infinite in their possibilities and yet... chord progressions are similar...
Words... they're somewhat finite... no? I mean.. how many ways can you say "I love you babe."?
And yet... ever once in a while... I'm surprised. 🍷🍷😎 Cheers. Happy Sunday. 😇
