Fitness and Sex

Let’s begin by talking about the release of endorphins, which are feel good chemicals that are an immediate byproduct of proper physical activity. Endorphins are endogenous opioid (yes OPIATES!) inhibitory neuropeptides. They are produced by the central nervous system and pituitary gland. Endorphins are naturally produced in higher amounts during activity and they are responsible for the zen-like, euphoric calm that follows a good workout. These are the same chemicals that are released during sex! As a matter of fact, you get a HUGE release of endorphins when you climax. More endorphins equals more euphoria. Exercise is very similar to sex in this fundamental way and endorphins are huge chemical “turn ons” that all of our bodies produce more of when we are active.

Exercise also increases short AND long-term circulation. Good circulation is critical for good sex since it is blood that flows to the parts of our body that become aroused. Viagra and other erectile enhancing drugs work by enhancing circulation. Viagra is what is called a PDE-5 inhibitor that blocks an enzyme that degrades a VERY important circulation chemical called nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is a potent vasodilator. In other words, it acts to “open” and “relax” blood vessels to allow for better blood flow. Exercise does the same thing but in a different way. Rather than blocking PDE-5 activity, exercise simply increases the amount of nitric oxide in your blood. In reality, exercise is a natural Viagra…without all the dangerous side-effects.

Being fit and feeling good also improves self-confidence! Even small visible and positive changes in our body reinforce that we are improving and that our hard work is creating our desired result! You don’t have to be a ripped fitness model either…even a 5 lbs fat loss changes how we feel about ourselves. Attitude is a HUGE part of libido and as your body changes so does your attitude towards yourself. Feeling great is a precursor to feeling sexy. Exercise equals more self-confidence which equates to a higher sex drive.

My comment here will serve its purpose, but remember to put the first comment by yourself, right after you post your blog posts next time.. It will make your blog post to show up in the "Recently Posts". Otherwise, your post will never show up anywhere else, and no one will know you have posted your blogs.

This first comment in your blog posts doesn't have to be anything special, people just put "The magic comment", "My obligatory comment", or you can really write what you wanna say, in your first comment, too.

There are some wonderful bloggers here, so be sure to go to other bloggers' post, and leave them your comments. It's a good way to mingle and reciprocate!

And if you are a santadard member, you can set up a private inbox, so even if you can't communicate with other members though mails, you still can communicate though your blogs.

Happy blogging, and let us know if you have any other questions in regards to the blogs, we are happy to assist you.

oh The women who will feel judged and shamed by this truth and attack it as hateful ,intolerant , offensive , .They think since they have no knowledge and no self disxipline to be healthy it should be made normal to be heavy , sickly, malnourished and inactive . Then spend tons of money on superficial bullshit poisonous treatments to make them feel pretty .Oy No wonder so many men think women are difficult . The guys are no better now, fat ,slow, sick, on drugs , no sex drive , e.d. diabetes ,heart disease. It is a shame how poorly americans look after their own health .Sorry many of them are not at all attractive in a wholistic way .People get active , eat real whole organic foods mostly veggies, get sleep ,move more ,worry less. good health to all

"....even a 5 lbs fat loss changes how we feel about ourselves." So very true...I've been losing (Getting Rid Of) weight for months now at about 1-2lbs week. Feeling better AND looking better every week! Getting back to my "fighting weight" (I am retired CA State TKD Champ, Senior Div) of 130lbs.
Oh, my sexual drive AND performance...LOL...has been noticed by my one steady partner....LOL Goes a long ways to enhancing self-esteem....YES!
Thanks for the reassuring blog, Amy. You're a doll, but you already know that! LOL Daddy Ray

Great application of biochemistry to sexuality.

Love a woman who can make some science sexy.

Especially when it's informative as well, lol.

Enjoyed the post. Cheers!

I exercise for the neurotransmitters first. This makes me feel good and my body looks better because of it. I call my workout my morning coffee as I don't drink coffee but am quite alert and feeling good after a good sweat.

I just hopes this reaches the right people. I run and workout, trust me people this increases your sex drive and stamina. Keep your partner happy and feel better about yourself.

I think I have to say that staying fit provides the essential body condition for having sexual intercourse. The energy is important.

You nailed it. Nice job.
Studies show the important age for aerobic exercise is 16 to 40. Do that, and as you age past that your metabolism will stay with you. I’ve been a relentless basketball player since the age of 9. Now, I’m 58, 6’2”, and I weigh the same as I did at 28. I eat what I want, which is a balanced diet, and I plan on playing and WORKING at my passion into my late 70’d and hopefully beyond.
Start young...and rage at it. Work hard and play hard are connected!

While I do agree that exercise is very good for the body and sex (duh), I wonder what your professional opinion on a healthy diet and it’s relation to sex as well. I tend to work out a few times a week, but in my experience it would seem the best results tend to come from a good diet, in addition to exercise of course.
