Fake or Fraudulent profiles
Fake or Fraudulent profiles There are a significant number of false or fraudulent profiles on the site. Typically, they use a profile image and further images from other sites on the web. Sites which are pirated for this are often porn sites, sometimes ones offering Russian brides, and in at least one case found from Instagram. Luckily, this makes it fairly easy to spot the frauds. If you type image search into Google on a PC, you can link to Google Image Search. A click on the camera icon allows an image to be uploaded, or an URL provided to be searched. To get an image URL or download a profile image, right click on the photo of the person (even mini ones from lists) and choose either: Save image as, or Copy image , or Search Google for image Then use the image or its link for a search. The same applies to photos sent in chats. The sites with matching images, if it has been copied fraudulently, will start from the end of the first page of Google Image Search results. If the profile photo or the person’s other photos do not come up in a search but you are still suspicious, try reversing the photo flipping it horizontally in photo editing software, and run the search again. Some people report better results by using other image search engines like Tineye or Yandex, so maybe try those too. Finally, why not ask the person whom you are checking to attach to a message a selfie of them holding a placard in their teeth saying something like: Hi [your name], this is [their name] on mm/dd/yyyy (the current date). They still might be operating some sort of sting or scam, but at least you know what they really look like! Happy hunting, AngloSwiss_ch |
