Squirrel!
Squirrel! I am an animal lover. I love where I live because I'm right by the Cuyahoga River Valley and the Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath, and there is so much wildlife that comes through my yard. It isn't unusual in the course of a day for me to see squirrels, a few deer, maybe a fox or , rabbits, chipmunks, tons of birds, and the neighbors' Rottweilers (okay, they aren't wildlife, but they're adorable) who always come the fence see and give kisses. I have cats, myself, and I always had dogs growing up. Earlier this week I was outside working in the yard, and I felt something land on my back and scurry up onto my shoulder and then it was gone. I stood up and there on the pool ledge was a young squirrel. Little critter must have taken a tumble out of the tree and landed on me. We were nose to nose. Such an adorable little thing. I moved the wheelbarrow closer to the side of the pool so it could hop down and then it scurried off and back up the tree. Every morning I have my coffee on my deck now that I've dragged my furniture up there. Ever since that morning, I've had some company when I've come out for my coffee. A little squirrel, sometimes with a friend and sometimes alone, comes to see me. S/he sits on the ledge of my deck and chatters at me while my cats sit inside the kitchen or office doors and go insane because they can't get at the critter(s). I think I have a new best friend. I always bring a little treat out for my friend, which is why I think s/he keeps coming back, but I do enjoy the company. It's a great way to start my morning. |
