Back to his winning ways

Those of you who have followed my blogs know it is now the start of club wrestling season and today was the first tournament for our club. For those of you who are new, I coach my son and others on a private wrestling club in the disciplines of Folk style, Freestyle, and Greco Roman.

Here are the results:

It was a grueling fast paced day, after a disappointing loss in the first round, the boy came back strong and dispatched his next 5 opponents in a systematic fashion to capture 1st place in his return to club wrestling today.

Now, if running the tables after a defeat was not good enough ‒ he did it two weight classes up! He weighed in at 186 pounds which put him in the 189 class and when they pooled (combined the weight classes), he was in a pool where the next lightest opponent was 209 pounds. Is this unfair? The boy is a senior now and knows the score ‒ wrestling sometimes can be brutal and unfair ‒ pull up your big boy socks and get going. The largest opponent in his pool tipped in at 234 pounds … yes, that is a lot to give up and this was the only one he lost to. The boy just made one small mistake and a move that would have worked easily on an opponent of equal size ‒ well … it did NOT on this fella.

The season is still young ... he has 9 more pre-season tournaments (yes, this is during his regular HS football season), his last regulation high school season, then 28 tournaments after that, not including the all star team (if he makes it again), the regional, and the nationals. So keep an eye out for the future blogs ‒ there will be many.
