It's Been 8+ Years

Little over a week ago I had the foot surgery I needed 8 years ago. I have suffered with pain and have been 3 doctors that would not treat me. The previous 3 doctors felt since they couldn't find anything wrong on my xrays, well then I must be faking the pain in order to get narcotic pain meds. What a crock of shit.

A few months ago I saw my GP for some cold related issues and he became concerned with my weight gain. I explained up about 20 I was running 6 miles a day and lifting weights 2 3 times a week. With foot pain now 24/7, I have not worked for years and I couldn't even do normal house cleaning without constantly sitting down. Just walking through the grocery store caused me agony.

I explained I had been to 3 other doctors and they just flat out refused to treat me when they couldn't see anything on an xray. He insisted I see a specialist in the practice. I obliged not expecting anything more than the treatment I had received from others. I was wrong.

This doctor was completely different. When I explained my whole foot pain history with her and all the things the other doctors made me do never helped, she said an MRI would be best. She was right.

So I had my surgery and now Non-weight bearing for a few weeks. She had to repair the tendon that attaches my second toe to the foot, shave down the second metatarsal and essentially re-position my second toe on my left foot. This is considered pretty extensive since it is all in an area is no more than a half inch.

So glad to get this done and start the healing process. Just checking one more issue off the list keeps me on edge all the time. I'm hoping to work back to my normal workout schedule by next summer. I know this will be a long road ahead. I'm 8 yrs older and doing everything I used to do may not come so easily, but I like the challenge.

The issue I have right now is staying with my elderly mother. She can't me much, but she has the shower setup I need. I've learned adapt and do things with the scooter. Driving is next and possibly going somewhere without anyone with me.

I've included a few photos of my foot from the day after surgery and today.

Hope everyone is staying cool, I'm not allowed to get in the pool so my time off sucks and I think you can stick a fork in me........I'm done!

I Found What I Was Looking For

I've been house hunting for the last couple of months. Not much out there in my price range. I've seen a couple of houses I think should be torn down and not really in any shape to be redone. Then the price dropped on a house that it is in the same neighborhood I grew up in. I made an appointment to see the place and my realtor said someone else had looked at the place but was having trouble getting any financing.

The property is about 1/3 of an acre and the house was built in 1968 and in my price range. So I made an offer and the seller accepted. I'm approved for my mortgage. All that is left is the mounds of paperwork and then I'm a homeowner. Seller is leaving a lawn mower, riding mower, snow blower, some furniture and household appliances. There's a wheelchair left behind, but I think I will donate that to a local organization. House is move in ready!

I can't wait to move and then adopt a dog. I've been missing having a dog for a long time. I haven't done yard work in a long time, but I guess it will be like riding a bike......never forget.

Hope everyone is enjoying Spring and ready for Summer!

I made an appointment to see a house in my price range a couple of weeks ago. I saw the main floor, second floor, attic and basement. I even checked out the deck and yard outside even though there was snow every where. I talked to the listing agent a few minutes and then I left.

The next day I got a from the listing agent asking if I wanted to make an offer. I responded my agent would be in touch. Well that set off a series of texts from the listing agent, she was mad. Her last text to was, "We practice dual agency around here all the time". Yeah well, I'm not okay with that. I want someone to represent me, not the seller or an agent's bank account.

So, I'm not getting this house. She would not accept anything from me. I offered 3k more than what the market value and she wasn't budging. Basically, the house has been on the market a long time and she is lucky I offered her anything over market value. It's a small house on a very small lot. The current owners didn't finish some upgrades and others were done half-assed. The neighborhood is half renters and half owners, so there tends to be some unrest on this street from time to time. However, the neighbors on either side are quiet respectful home owners, so that was a plus.

UPDATE: This house eventually for 4K less than the listing price. That agent was just a biotch.

How Does This Happen?

For 10 years I worked in a prison as a correctional officer. Ten years I worked in a live petri dish environment and not once did I ever get the flu. A few times I had the sniffles but never the flu. I've worked for the the PA State Police for approximately 1 1/2 years and I've been sick twice.

This time is worse than the last time because now it is in my sinuses, lungs and ears. So now I have to try and get an appointment with the doctor or go to urgent care where they can extort an extra fifty bucks from me after the germs have invaded my body.

Myself and the other dispatchers have been careful to wipe our area down with disinfectant wipes at the end of each shift so as not to spread this to each other. I think this is from one of the Troopers that had Bronchitis and he used my phone one night to yell at some drunk guy on the phone.

I hate being sick!!!! And I just spent an hour shoveling my sidewalk and digging out my car. So glad I'm on my long weekend.

A Daunting Task

Today I started the daunting task of house hunting. Trying to find something that is in my price range and doesn't look like tear down in Detroit is a lot harder than you think. Some people have a very inflated idea of what their home is really worth.

When I think of "move in ready", I think of a house that doesn't slant to one side. The house I saw today was half of a duplex. As soon as I walked In I noticed that the entire house slanted to one side. Somebody put laminate flooring in and wondering why they bothered. The whole floor job looks like what an owner does when they are renting a property. Everything is half-assed so that the renter will think these things are actual upgrades. I won't be making an offer on this house simply because I don't want to live in a cockeyed house.

If the house didn't slant to one side I might have offered them half of what they are asking because everything needed to be redone. And I mean everything.

Well, there are a couple more houses to see. Still need my pre-approval for a mortgage. Thankfully the Federal Govt is going back to work. Maybe I can get a house before they shut down again. Looks like gearing toward a USDA Loan.

I'm done being nice. No one dictates why I'm on here or when I'm on here. No one has the right to tell me to leave the site because I'm not doing the same thing you are doing on here. I tried to be nice about it, but I'm over it. If you are too stupid to read my profile first and then just move on, you get exactly what you deserve.

I am in no way obligated to discuss anything with anyone on this site. And I believe that from now on I'm going to be as abrasive and confrontational as I can be with those that forgot to put their readers on before sending me a stupid message.

Here's to those that wish us well, and those that don't can go to hell!- Elaine Benes

SPORT or HOBBY?

Should trolling on Facebook be a sport or hobby? Can it be both or just one at a time? What does one gain from trolling others on Facebook?

I was just wandering what everyone's thought were on the subject. I find that people have thoughts in their head and they seem like a good idea "in their head" but when typed in the comment section on Facebook, they sound like that character from In Living Color that would just say big words to make himself appear smart.

And then there are just idiots that will shit all over anything because they know they will never meet face to face with those posts that they troll.

I imagine that if Facebook Trolling were a real sport and actionable in real life, it would look something like this:

random person walking around and just inserting themselves into any group convo and yelling out random shit that is unintelligible and then calling you names and ranting about something completely off topic. Then they would accuse you of being the one who is stupid and without merit.
-so now that commercial with the old ladies sitting there trying to figure out Facebook and one says to the other, "I unfriend you" comes to mind.

I think I might like to go to the theater to see a play where the actors physically act out on stage what Facebook is like. I would probably piss myself laughing.

Don't Mean To Be

This time of year makes me miss having a dog. My work schedule means I will miss Thanksgiving this year. I wish I had a dog, but landlords just don't allow pets because of irresponsible pet owners. The ones that do allow pets charge outrageous non-refundable deposits and fees that you would think that one has to be paying rent for a completely separate property.

I don't like people much, but I have had a dog since I was 12 and not one of them were ever an asshole. Never had to give up being me to please their ego, never ghosted me, never were judgmental. If you are a pet owner then you get it. Those with children don't get it because children are just miniature versions of the assholes I've encountered in my lifetime.

Dogs are comforting and soothing. Even if they need a lot of care, they give back more than I have ever given them. Just a perfect match.

Well, I guess it had to happen sooner or later. talking about scammers contacting people on here. I just had my very first email from a scammer. I've heard other people talk about it like it happened as often as we breathe in and out, but never had one contact me on here.

Craving Culture

Monday I spent some time at the Flight 93 Memorial in Somerset County. I do have plans to visit the other two memorial sites in the future. I wasn't sure how I would feel at the site. I didn't know anybody on that flight. Directly after the events happened on 9/11 a Representative from Western PA began asking for donations to create a memorial at the sight of the crash. My dad was a sheriff at the time and he made a in the name of his office. Less than 2 later he passed away unexpectedly. The office received an official condolence letter from this State Rep ( blanking on her name) and 12 stainless steel bracelets with the inscription "let's go". I was a recipient of one of those bracelets. After seeing the memorial and understanding that they created a "living memorial" overwhelmed with emotion. To think that my dad made a , no matter how small and without knowing what they were planning, that provides a place to pay respect to those fallen and to educate future generations on what happened that day; makes me very proud.

On a lighter note. I visited several houses either built by Frank Lloyd Wright or inspired by his designs the next day. Falling Water is an amazing place. Considering that the main house and guest house were built from 1936 to 1939 and very modern for the time. You can see houses from the 1940s and beyond that have incorporated elements of his ideas. I see architectural designs every where that have copied Wright's ideas in both residential and commercial buildings. After seeing this house and three others two of which were not built by Wright himself but inspired by his concepts, it makes me crave more culture.

Once a year you should visit some place you have never been before. (paraphrasing Dalai Lama)

My dad was a police officer in a small town. So imagine you are in your car stopped at a red light on a 2 lane one way street. You look over at the patrol car next to you and see the officer driving wearing this.......

Not sure any police department would allow an officer to get away with something like this now. Too many snowflakes out there.

Monday morning I'm off for a little trip not far from my home. Heading to the Flight 93 National Memorial Park, then to my hotel. Tuesday I have tickets to tour two Frank Lloyd Wright houses. One is called Falling Water and the other is the Duncan house at Polymath Park.

Nothing like low budget, interesting architecture, and some history for a fall trip.

iwin35 thinks I should not be on here because I'm not looking for the same thing he is looking for. SMH I educated him on the different types of people on here and that many are looking for different things. Such a narrow minded cretin.

Not in this world or any other, would I ever tell someone that they don't belong here if they are looking for something different than me.
