Honestly, the key building something serious is the understanding that the relationship and mutual trust are things that simply must be built. There is no successful shortcut that allows people be open, giving, or sacrificing towards another person immediately outside of childbirth. Any other true emotional ties require time and interaction to form.
Many people rush to serious, formal relationships and fail to understand that the mutual experiences are necessary to reassure each partner that the other would be willing to put one another ahead of themselves with regards to importance.
Take the time to meet people and figure out which ones you are interested in. Everyone is inherently flawed and have irritating crap in their personality and mannerisms. Accept that fact, and be quick and decisive as you choose which individuals whose crap you are willing to ignore or excuse for a length of time far longer than you have even been alive. Do not waste time on those that you think you can change: You cannot.
Lastly, understand that people undergo a drastic change in goals, ambitions, and personal outlook between the ages of 25 and 30. You will find that some of your own ideals and viewpoints will soon change or wane in importance. Do not rush into a bad decision out of desire for stability, you are worth investing the time to provide the best for yourself.
