Does your brain sometimes work like a computer's RAM, with buried memories surfacing from some deep storage area into your conscious mind? Reading blogs often triggers memories for me that I have no recollection or conscious recall of the source. Many posts are also thought-provoking, and hopefully mine will prompt you to recall memories or set your mind thinking!

Human Touch

I went for a drive today down to Port Elliot, dug through the console and dragged out an old Springsteen "best of" CD. I like a lot of his rockin' stuff, but some of his ballads are excellent too.
This little excerpt from one of my favourites (Human Touch) struck a chord.

"Tell me, in a world without pity
Do you think what Im askin's too much
I just want something to hold on to
And a little of that human touch
Just a little of that human touch"

I don't think it's asking too much, so keep looking and hopefully you will find what you seek.

Someone sent me this and I thought it was very funny and decided to share it here.

On reflection though, it has some sad elements.

What do you think?

Swine flu...how much is hysteria?

Firstly let me say I do not mean to trivialise the danger of this virus and the people it has killed and those yet to suffer. What I am trying to do is gain some perspective, and welcome your input and/or comments on my thoughts.
Mexico City has a population similar to the entire population of Australia, albeit crammed in to a much smaller space.
The world seems to be going to panic stations out of ignorance because the quality of information coming out of Mexico is apparently quite poor. Evidently there have been something like 2 to 3 thousand infections, with deaths approaching 160. No information is available as to the age of the victims, other contributing medical conditions that make victims more susceptible etc. (Death rates due to influenza and related respiratory complaints like pneumonia are extremely high in the elderly and frail, the very young, and those with other health issues such as diabetes etc.)
Sufferers in other countries (particularly those with a more temperate climate than Mexico) do not seem to be as severely affected as sufferers in Mexico. Could this be that people in the more temperate zones are more accustomed to contact with regular flu and so have a higher tolerance to the symptoms?
If this pandemic is so threatening to world-wide health, why haven't we shut down international travel to/from the countries with confirmed infections?

Some sobering statistics that make me question the hysteria being generated in the media about this, from the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing;
"The median number of deaths in Australia, from 1997 to 2006, from influenza and pneumonia is 2,715 with a range of 1,898 (1999) to 3,566 (2003). In 2006 (the latest year for which data has been released) there were 2,715 deaths attributed to influenza and pneumonia. (Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), International Classification of diseases (ICD) codes 10-18 )."

If this many Aussies are dying of regular influenza and pneumonia each year, the mind boggles as to what the world-wide toll would be. Maybe I am missing something, but new strains of 'flu emerge every year and circle the globe rapidly and with ease thanks to rapid international air-travel, and obviously kill many thousands (if not millions) in their wake. It makes me wonder if there is something we haven't been told, or whether the media hasn't become a little bored with global warming, global economic crisis etc.

I'd been dickering around earlier, (which isn't that unusual for me), and only just got my dinner ready in time! A porterhouse steak, flame grilled on the barbie, with a simple salad of lettuce tomato cucumber and red onion. It was finally ready at 8.29 so I lit a candle and got out a bottle of nice South Australian shiraz. I opened it in the dark, and unfortunately it was a screw-cap type. I dropped the cap and couldn't find it ( I tihnk it rolled under the frigde) so I figured I'd hvae to drink the whloe bottle, because otherwise it would spiol. Then I tried to mkae a post on my bolg, but couldn't get it to wrok proeprly so i gave up on that ieda.

Boy, once you start doing these stick figure porn toons it's hard to stop!
I won't be putting this one in the competition for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I already entered my limit of 5, and secondly, I sort of "borrowed" the idea. (I recall seeing a sketch of a cavewoman with a club over her shoulder, dragging a caveman in this fashion, that was captioned "If women ruled the world", or something similar. If that makes me a plagiarist, shoot me!

Tribbing. I knew about the activity but didn't know it had it's own name.

I saw this word a few days ago and it made me curious enough to look it up. It's a derivative of tribade, and tribadism. (Tribade is an old word, possibly French, that means lesbian.) I recall seeing the word tribadism before also but never knew what it was or was curious enough to look it up.

Tribbing is an activity between two women and involves rubbing their vulvas together, usually to achieve orgasm, or I guess as foreplay. It evidently goes by other slang terms as well, like beaver bumping, French connection, bumping buttons and scissoring, but the fave term I found is a Chinese term mo jing which evidently translates as "polishing mirrors".

Did you know this activity was called tribbing? Do you know of any other obscure terms for sexual practices?

I heard this word used recently by somebody who either had no idea what it meant, or maybe just used the wrong word for the context. It's a German word meaning "taking pleasure in others misery". To put it simply, it's those "Funniest home video" moments. You know...a kid's birthday party...a treat-filled pinata swinging in the breeze...a blindfolded kid with a baseball bat...a Dad standing too close, and the scene is set. You can see what is going to happen...the kid swings and BAM...Dad cops the bat right in the "Jatz crackers"! Dad is doubled over in agony and you simply can't help but laugh!
Now call it coincidence, but a couple of days later I received an email with a video attachment...you know...the type that get mass-mailed about the place. I had a look at this particular one and have to say I was just about wetting myself by the time the vid was only half way through. I knew it was going to end badly, I knew the kid was going to get hurt, I couldn't believe how stupid it was, and I knew why I was glad that fireworks are banned to the general public in this country!
I challenge you to make the effort to watch this video and tell me whether or not you could help laughing!
Here is what you will have to do...go to a website ebaumsworld (with the usuals dubs and dot com) and open any video. In the address bar the site url will include a 6 digit number...substitute 868627 for this number and press enter!
While you are there, you might as well have a look and laugh at 922438. In 822690 the only thing that gets hurt is her pride...except maybe for his back as I think he'll be sleeping on the couch for a few weeks, but it is still as funny as hell!
