... just wished you could walk off the edge of the earth and disappear?
I know it wouldn't solve anything, but I'd like to jump off the edge right now...
The picture is by artist Brian Beasley and it's called 'Silver on Blue'... and I now own it. Art is always a good investment. Safer than investing your feelings...

Gulp! Yep... it's now only 7 days to the BIG Four-Oh! What have I done in the last week? Erm... not much... nothing like a spell of lethargy to while away the time. I've been working, reading, spending time interacting on another website, and learning more jewellery techniques from my weekly class.
This coming week promises more of the same, although I have a visit to the British Museum, in London, to look forward to. Ever heard of the Terracotta Army? I'm off to see this wonderful exhibition, and then there's a promise of a delicious Chinese at a modest restaurant in Slough. Hey... it's not my fault they're not situated elsewhere!!
See you next week... perhaps!

Blink, and you miss it! Yes... eleven weeks seem to have flown by, and I'm staring 40 even closer in the eye now!!
Admittedly, it has been a rather interesting 11 weeks, not least 'cos I've managed to find myself a new job and resign, all in the space of one of those weeks!!
The next two weeks are going to be rather busy ones... it's the build up to Freshers' Week (I work at a university, in case you didn't know), and for once I get to celebrate my birthday BEFORE Freshers', rather than after... I'm usually too knackered to celebrate after a week of madness and mayhem!
I'll be starting my new job on Wednesday, 3rd October... I'm sure I'll be back here to celebrate the end of one job, and the beginning of another before then!
I've still been busy during all this time... Helga Hansen Originals is never going to make it BIG if I sit still and do nothing!!

Dear Boss...
Sorry, but I'm off. It's nothing personal, but you can't blame a girl for grabbing the opportunity to have a front row seat to all those men in lycra!!
I promise that I'll not abuse my position, and yes, I will make use of the 25m indoor pool, the million pound cardio-vascular suite... and the pole dancing classes!!
Love and misses
Helga
It's hand-my-notice-in-day tomorrow... do you think the boss will like my letter?

Yep... it's less than 4 weeks to the BIG Four-Oh AND I have a new job to look forward to!!
This time last week I hadn't even had the first interview, but by last night, at 10pm, I'd had two interviews, travelled several hundred miles for the second one, completed a mind-boggling assessment... oh, and just said "yes" to a job offer!!
Needless to say, I'm chuffed to bits, and I start in early October. Now I just have to figure out how I tell my current boss I'm leaving at the busiest time of the year!!
What was it they say about life beginning at 40?

Four T.V. Shows that I watch: 1. Waking The Dead 2. Heroes 3. Neighbours 4. 6 o'clock News
Four places I have been: 1. Denmark 2. Germany 3. Switzerland 4. France
People who e-mail me (regularly): Not many, because I'm rubbish at replying, and they just give up on me!
Four of my favorite foods: 1. Thai 2. Swedish meatballs and lingonberry sauce 3. All kinds of chocolate 4. Italian (with the exception of olives!!)
Four places I would rather be right now: 1. In a hammock with a good book 2. Visiting my friend in Germany 3. In the Swiss mountains, enjoying the crisp air and the stunning view! 4. Soaking in a hot tub with loads of bubbles and pummeling jet streams!
Things I am looking forward to this year: Sorry, I can't think of anything right now...
Now, here's what you're supposed to do, but I'm guessing that half of Blogville has already been tagged, so I'm sure it's not going to make a big difference if you don't!!
1. Create your post with the above questions.
2. Send this to a whole bunch of people you know or don't, including the person who tagged you. (Wacky's already been tagged, I see!)
3. Post on others blogs as 24Hrs TAG!
4. Remember to Tag it back to the person who tagged you first, within 24Hrs. - 24 Hr Tag - 4 Things...

Well, it's now twelve weeks until "Zero Day", and it hasn't convinced me any further that being 40 will be a good thing!
But... I do have to wonder about my attractiveness to the opposite sex...
Picture the scene... it's Thursday, I'm out on the annual staff jolly, which is a booze cruise around the Bristol Harbour, courtesy of the Bristol Ferry Company. We started early, motoring down the river towards the Nova Scotia. After a quick pint (a lager shandy for me), we were back on the ferry and off to the next pub for another swift pint. Then it was back on the ferry to the last pub, The Ostrich, and another pint before we were finally dropped off at Welshback. Then we were off to Sublime, and by this time, it's my fourth pint (yes, still on the lager shandy). The atmosphere was really merry by this stage as most of my work mates had not been as cautious as I had been with the alcohol levels!
Fast forward another few hours, and by this time I've had a cocktail, a meal and I've decided to play it safe and I'm on the water. The kids, on the other hand, have not, and they are well on their way. I say kids as I work at a university, and each year sees a new batch of student officers arrive. Anyway, this year there is another brand, spanking new bunch. This year's "El Presidente" is a lovely young man, fresh-faced (that must be due to his age!!) and really rather sweet. Oh, and not that it matters much, but he's also gay.
Now, we're back to the reason for my question...
It's late, the alcohol is flowing, and things are getting quite ribald. Lil' Pres was wearing eye-liner by this stage, and the next thing I know, he's telling me he rather loves my breasts, and "please, would you mind if I touched them?"
Of course, I said "yes" (well, let's face it, I'm hardly likely to be groped by a young 'un again any time soon!!)
So, this is my question... if you were gay, what would it take for you to go straight? And, more crucially... would you go straight for me?
The photo is of my breasts... after all, I was dressed on the night!

Thirteen Weeks and Counting...

I was hit by a sobering thought this morning, while having my shower...
It's 13 weeks, minus one day, until I turn 40. Yes, that's 4-0... fourrrrr-teeeeee!!!
Now, don't get me wrong, I don't usually have qualms about having birthdays, even ones that end in zero... although it was 10 years since the last one!! For some reason, however, I'd like this one to come and go without fanfare or huge celebration.
Can I be 39 again, please? Just this once... and then I'll be 41 next year.
I promise.

Going to Work on an Egg Banned!!!

I was horrified to hear the other day that the egg industry has been dealt a shocking blow when it was advised it would not be allowed to show the iconic “Go To Work On An Egg” ads, which featured Tony Hancock in the 50s. These ads were to be screened on television to mark the 50th anniversary of the British Lion mark.
It would appear that eggs are not a food restricted under the new rules on advertising but, despite this, the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre (BACC) has said the ads cannot be repeated because the concept of “eating eggs every day goes against the principle of eating a varied diet”. Erm, so eating a Maccy D breakfast muffin is any better? Come to that, some well-known cereals are so sugary, they’d make your kids hyper if that had those for breakfast every day!! I have to say that when I heard the famous egg slogan, it never once entered my thoughts that I’d be stuffing my face with eggs all day, every day!!
Popular author Fay Weldon, who headed the team which came up with the famous slogan in 1957 has branded the decision “absurd”. Too bloody right!!
The British Egg Information Service (BEIS) has launched a special website (the usual triple W’s dot gotoworkonanegg dot co dot uk), where people can view the banned ads. You can also add your vote of whether you’d like to see the ads banned or not. I had a giggle watching Tony Hancock being his usual grumbly self, and then I sensibly clicked on the button that said these ads shouldn’t be banned!!
It has been proved eggs are packed with protein and essential vitamins and minerals and new evidence has shown that eating eggs for breakfast may also help with slimming. There are also no restrictions on the number of eggs people can eat.
In an attempt to reach a compromise, the BEIS offered to add a line to the ads which would state that eggs should be eaten as part of a varied diet but the BACC has rejected this suggestion as being contradictory to the overall message of the ads.
A leading nutritionist said: “Eggs are a great choice for all the family, providing plenty of vitamins and minerals. They are also relatively low in saturated fat and there are only 80Kcals per medium egg, making them ideal for dieters.”
