Why are people so scared/shy to chat on passion

Good day!
I enjoy a good chat on the passion instant messenger, but it's soo difficult to get people to answer you on there. Especially when you are a male. I politely ask people on IM if they would like to chat, and i see they have received my request, but it is just ignored.Often i would just like to pay the person a compliment but can't.
Now if it was me, i would answer anyway and if it was not someone i wanted to chat to, i would politely say, "thanks for the invite but no thank you". But i guess that's just me.
Then i think that a lot of people don't realise that they can use the Instant Messenger on the home page. There are 2 ladies i find interesting and would love to chat to them, but they never go onto the Instant Messenger. These 2 ladies are: PetPet2001 and Vilapcous.If only they would use the IM. But i guess then they probably wouldn't accept my invite to chat.lol.
You never know who you may come across if you don't at least start a conversation. That's my 2 cents worth for today.
