The irrational think they can control guns by gun safes, gun locks, training and turning off violent tv.
The problem is human nature. People are emotional and irrational at times. If you get depressed you may decide kill yourself and then try within minutes of the impulse.
Suicide is a permanent solution a temporary problem. 5% of the suicide attempts not using a gun result in death. Suicide attempts with a gun work kill about 85% of the time. Guns are very effective at killing.
If you have a gun in the house you are taking a risk. Like a cobra or a rattlesnake the guns bite is deadly. me worse than death would be permanent disability for the rest of your life. All for the joy of having the power of death at ready command.
How many people are fit command easy death with a gun? Even trained police and soldiers succumb depression and commit gun suicides. Why are you so smart and balanced that you can escape? Ego is not a substitute for sense.
We have recognize our limitations and not tempt fate. Irrational stupidity is rampant. Why risk your life or those lives you love? Fewer guns is better. No guns is best.

Another reason to dump Trump if you needed one is his cruelty to children migrants.
A new rule unveiled by the Trump administration on Wednesday would override the Flores settlement that caps the detention of immigrant children at 20 days before their release or transfer to a state licensed facility. The rule, set to be published in the Federal Register this week, eliminates the 20-day cap and allows the government to keep immigrant families in detention indefinitely while their immigration cases are pending.
The rule eliminates a requirement that family detention centers be licensed by the states. Instead, they would be governed by standards set by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The rule was first proposed last fall.
The rule would take effect 60 days after publication, but it has to be approved by a federal judge, the New York Times reports. Court challenges are expected.
The 1997 Flores settlement said most minors in immigration custody should be released without unnecessary delay, with first preference for release to a parent, followed by release to a legal guardian, an adult relative, a designated adult or a licensed program. The settlement, as interpreted in 20, sets a 20-day cap on holding both accompanied and unaccompanied children in unlicensed facilities.
Last July a federal judge turned down the government’s request to modify the Flores settlement to allow the indefinite detention of families.
According to the Department of Homeland Security press release, the Flores settlement always contained provisions for its termination. At first, it was to terminate in five years. Then the parties agreed in 2001 that the settlement would end after final rule-making, DHS says. But a fact sheet by Human Rights First says the agreement ends with rule-making that implements its terms. The Trump administration seeks instead to modify the agreement, according to the group.

Learning English

I try to people succeed. I tell my from China to learn English. Why?
Even though learning English is hard later in life, it is helpful if you live in the U.S.
Outside of Monterey Park and Alhambra, most Americans do not speak Mandarin or Cantonese. If you want to work with other Americans, deal with the police or the courts you are better off speaking English than trusting to an interpreter. Many translators are not accurate and mistakes happen.
If you can only work for a Chinese speaker you will get less. is the reality.
Just normal conversation uses only about 1,500 words. You can learn in a month if you immerse yourself in listening to English, speaking and reading English. There are free classes for English at many places from schools to libraries to churches.
If you want to succeed in the U.S., then learn English or suffer the consequences. Life can be tough but why make it tougher because you are lazy? Life is not fair, but you can shift the odds in your favor if you work at it.
The reality is many adults will not try to learn English, and hurts them. Their children will learn English very well and they will succeed better in the U.S. Such is life.

We have seen this movie too many times. A mass murder with a gun or guns. Hopes and prayers. Calls for action. Talk and talk. No action.
Trump starts to talk gun control, and then talks with right wing folks and NRA. Trump backtracks and opposes gun control. Been there, seen before.
The solution? Get rid of Trump and GOP control of the Senate.
California has some strict gun laws, but Nevada a short distance away by car does not. The problem cannot be solved by one state's laws when the internet is national and international.
The U.S. has more guns than people. No wonder guns are used for suicide, crimes, and accidents to injure and kill. People kill people easily with easy access to guns. Try to kill hundreds quickly and easily with a knife... You may kill a few, but then you are stopped.
People think guns can protect them from bad guys. Much more often guns are use to harm oneself or a family member. Owning a gun is like owning a pet cobra. You never know when it will bite you. Then you are dead or in critical condition. Yet people seek out and for the pleasure of risking their lives. We are so dumb, so often, it is tragic and foolish.
Foolish humans get mad or crazy and shoot people they love, or people they hate, or just random people. Without the gun or rifle no one gets shot. We need fewer guns and tighter access to ammo, and smaller capacity magazines.
There will be no meaningful gun control with Trump and the GOP. Vote for Dems. The life you save may be your own or someone you love.

Nearly two-thirds of gun deaths are suicides. The U.S. gun suicide rate is times that of other high-income countries. About 22,300 gun suicides happened in the latest year for statistics.
Access to a gun increases the risk of death by suicide by three times. Gun suicides are concentrated in states with high rates of gun ownership.
Most people who attempt suicide do not die—unless they use a gun. Across all suicide attempts not involving a firearm, less than five percent will result in death.
But for gun suicides, those statistics are flipped: approximately 85 percent of gun suicide attempts end in death.
White men represent 74 percent of firearm suicide victims in America.

The prez lacks empathy, except for neo nazis and white racists. His display was putrid.
The gun nuts hate immigrants and minorities are cheered by trump and encouraged act vigilante hate with guns. So pathetic.
Notice the Muslim ban has not stopped white native born terrorists. Of course not. I suppose we should be happy they are not using truck bombs to kill more people like the Oklahoma city bomber. Was he an immigrant? No, a native born right wing ass.
Trump the ready fire aim guy. Still fighting the myths from the sixties and the eighties.
He may wreck the economy fighting China. Might be worth it to get rid of him...
why blame Trump? He is the president claimed he could fix everything. Well fix the gun maniacs killing people....

People claim they want the truth. I have found not true.
If you really want to upset people tell them the truth. I tend to do and find it really upsets people. They hate . Especially the truth will them time, or effort. Or worse tells them something cannot be fixed they made worse.
For example, sometimes the only way to solve an immigration problem is to seek asylum. does not work for people who already tried to get asylum and lost, or who have waited longer than a year from being out of status unless there are special reasons. Some do not have any persecution and they are out of luck.
Marrying an American citizen works too, unless it is not real and the people do not live together. Again people do not like to hear if they do not like to marry. But is the truth. The laws may change but is in the future. The future laws may be worse or better. We shall see.
So be careful of the truth, you may not like what you hear.

Random gun killing

People get upset about random gun mass murders. But not upset enough to stop them.
New Zealand, Australia, and Sweden took action. They bought up guns, restricted access to guns and made gun ownership more difficult. They cut down mass gun killing.
The U.S. is not ready to take action. My guess is it will never be. We have over 300 million guns already. We have the Second Amendment. We have many gun lovers. We have many lone wolf mad males with access to guns.
Background checks will not stop determined killers from access to guns.
There are many large magazines for guns out there.
The Las Vegas shooting killed many and nothing happened, except a ban on bump stocks. The criminal minded can get or make a bump stop.
So get used to random gun murders.
Your personal odds of being shot are very small. You can reduce the chance of random death avoiding free rock concerts, movie theaters, schools and churches.
The greater risk from guns is suicide by gun, so do not have a gun in the house.
Guns make killing easy. But many more die from smoking, car accidents, falling getting into the shower or tub, and drinking too much alcohol.
In life you have to live and take your chances. So focus on getting the odds in your favor.

Anyone has driven across the U.S. or even from Los Angeles to Las Vegas is struck the vast area of empty space. The U.S. is not as crowded as Asia or Europe. There is still lots of room. So it is another shocking lie from Trump when he says the U.S. is full!
Even the U.S. cities are far less densely populated than most of the rest of the world.
Besides we need workers to support those popular federal programs Social Security and Medicare. Social Security will have to cut benefits in 2035 if no changes are made. The immigrants into these programs but many will not see any from them unless they become legal residents or citizens.
I do not understand why some feel morally superior because their parents or grandparents arrived in the U.S. earlier than recent immigrants. Everyone in the new world came from the old world. The African slaves were dragged to the U.S. before most so they have a claim due to being older immigrants than many who came after 1820. So what?
Most tech startups these days have some immigrants involved. They power the economy.
Japan with its low birthrate and aging population is spiraling downward. Do we want to join them in a death spiral down? Not a good plan.
Lets not fear the new and welcome the immigrants to make the U.S. greater than the past.

I have problems with people who claim to be pro life, but only for cute babies.
In theory old people, ugly people and people of a different race than you also deserve life. If you believe all lives matter then you cannot pick and choose the lives to respect.
So the death penalty does not make sense. If we are all sinners then we all should deserve the death sentence at some point and some time. If we are all redeemable then no one should be executed.
People do not seem able to shed prejudices. So all human judgments are affected prejudices. People cannot forget race differences, ethnic differences and gender differences. Celebrity status alone warps the idea of justice. In theory equal treatment the law is the rule. But in reality the rich and famous get treated much better than a normal person.
Despite lots of evidence OJ Simpson was not convicted of two murders.
A computer would not be subject to human bias. But would people be willing to take a computer deciding their fate? Not very likely.
The death penalty is also very expensive to operate and still makes many mistakes. Hundreds of people have been exonerated from death rows DNA testing usually.
Death penalty advocates have to accept repeated errors mean innocent people are killed the state. How can a moral person accept idiocy?
Another problem is many who do evil acts do not get the death penalty, like the Manson killers, while others do.
Frequently a minority who kills a white person of higher social status gets the death penalty while a white who kills a minority does not. Social class and wealth should not decide whether you get the death penalty, but in reality these may determine the fate of the accused.
Many still support a death penalty despite the problems of trying to have a fair system run error prone people. Those who see the system in action are not willing to have their fate decided this system. Fear of the judge and jury forces many to plead guilty to avoid a trial risking a death sentence. So some innocent people are coerced into pleading guilty to avoid risking a false death verdict. So much for human rights.

I did not watch the debates as life is too short. I saw the highlights and some parts.
Trump is corrupt, inept, racist and anti-women. Trump welcomes from Russia and has hurt the economy with regressive tariffs.
Dems need to show they have decency and plan to the bottom 99% with jobs, healthcare, infrastructure repair, and fight climate change. Immigration reform would also people and the economy.
Biden still seems the best man for the job of winning. He is decent, sane and has the name recognition and history of public service. He needs a progressive as VP.
I like Warren, Castro, Booker or Mayor Pete for VP progressive role. Any Dem would be better than Pence.
Dems need to win the Senate and hold the House to get things done....
Dems need to avoid the circular firing squad and unite behind the winning Dem nominee. The U.S. as we know it may not survive four more years of Trump until 2024.
Meanwhile if we do not tackle climate change we are all toast.

Excessive alcohol use led to approximately 88,000 deaths and 2.5 million years of potential life lost each year in the United States from 2006 – 2010, shortening the lives of those who died by an average of 30 years. They found drinking alcohol was associated with nearly 1 in 10 deaths of people ages 15 to 49 years old. Causes included tuberculosis, road injuries and self-harm.
Nearly 40,000 people were killed by guns in the United States in 2017, according to new data released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The total brings the country’s gun death rate to its highest point in more than two decades.
The CDC’s WONDER public health database shows that 39,773 people died from firearms last year. That works out to a gun death rate of 12.0 per 100,000 people — higher than the rate of death from car accidents of 11.5 per 100,000 people, once the leading cause of fatal injury.
The increase in the gun death rate in 2017 was driven by suicides. Sixty percent of gun deaths last year were self-inflicted. While the rate of gun homicides has fluctuated over the last decade, the rate of gun suicides has steadily increased.
The merchants of death promote death, but you do not need to buy into that....

Tarantino's new movie "once upon a time in Hollywood" was a satisfying trip old 69 Hollywood with a twist. The fable is how a Western movie version of the Mansion followers killing Tate and LaBianca's would have been much better if Hollywood scripted the ending.
Like "Inglorious Bastards" life is not as nice as the artistic version of events.
Manson was horrible and evil. But he was also screwed life. Society helped create this monster. He had some musical talent and was taken advantage of an uncaring world. If he had gotten better treatment he might have been a successful musician and gotten some admiration and instead of manipulating dummies to be killers for a paranoid purpose.
If he had a good defense team he might have beaten the harge like OJ Simpson did.
Our system of holding people responsible for their actions, despite lots of evidence people are not always being in control of their reality. His evil acts deserved incarceration for life. Manson was too dangerous to release into the world given his charisma and evil charm for those with less morality and sense. He still haunts the hills of our imagination in ways most criminals do not.
I admit I would have had no trouble killing Manson if he had threatened me or someone else and I thought I could justify lethal force in defense. I oppose the death penalty, but I am willing to make exceptions for the deserving criminals.
