5. It was not a sex site in it's conception.
In 1996, A Man named Andrew Conru created a website called "FriendFinder". It's purpose was exactly that, to find a friend. After discovering that users had been using the service to seek sexual partners, he launched passion as a spin-off, followed later by other spin-offs dealing with different regions and niches.
4. You're the Spin-off.
The FriendFinder Network is enormous. This is due in large part to their affiliate program. Basically clones of this website you're using right now are all over the internet. A little over 15,000 are active RIGHT now. So whether you like it or not, even if it's a site you dont want to be listed on, You're Listed on sites like:

The persons responsible for these clones, affiliates, get a small payment for driving traffic to the network. You may even prefer one of their interfaces better, but they are all essentially the same website. There are also non sexual ones, in which your adult credentials will not work for obvious reasons.
3. You dont own your material and content.
When you sign up for an account on this website, you are signing an agreement. In this agreement it makes it pretty clear that by making it available at all on the platform, it's theirs. No warning text in your profile is gonna change that, you have already agreed. Thankfully, the site does offer in it's setting to "opt-out" of your content being used in promotional material. However they are free to share,sell, and trade your profile and it's contents on the market, as they do. Bonus fact, you also agree that anyone else (like if you're streaming a webcam) has the ok to download or record/ screen shot your content. Take a look at those terms yourself if you don't believe me
2. Penthouse Bought passion
In 2007, Penthouse Media Group purchased FriendFinder's parent company, Various, Inc., for $500 million. Penthouse later changed its name to FriendFinder Networks. In June 2010, FriendFinder Networks made a $210 million bid to acquire Playboy Enterprises. Hugh Hefner, who owned 70 percent of the voting stock, did not want to sell.
1. They are broke.
In August 2013, FriendFinder was delisted from the NASDAQ because its stock had not traded for more than $1. On September 16, 2013, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.FriendFinder has not turned a net profit since at least 2008. So the next time you are upset at the state of the website and its functionality, (especially as a standard member) keep in mind there is a MASSIVE financial loss at play to keep giving FREE access the what is still the LARGEST adult dating network on the planet.
